Well I'm here! Got here yesterday. Quite like the place so far

So you did come. It takes a few weeks, I found, to adjust to the pace of life here but good luck with the new job/relocation. Remember the Black Forest is near. Seemed empty last weekend!

Well i'm here for my trial run but probably back and forth until Christmas. Whats going on at the Black Forrest? Cheers

Not much. Just some of the best driving roads I have found, spectacular scenery and great beer gardens (although I realise that last one is not great for this time of year).

Oh nice one, i'll give that a go at the weekends (something to do!). I was going to ask the best place to go for a drive, any idea of a destination I can put on my sat nav to point me in the right direction?

Ok then, I'm not sure how far you would like to drive for the roads I know to be good fun as they are around 100km from Schaffhausen.

1) Head to Wehr in Germany (near Bad Sackingen) on the Swiss/German boarder. Follow signs to Todtmoos from Wehr.

2)Todtmoos to St. Blasien.

3)St. Blasien to Gorwihl.
(The above route was given to me by a fellow PHer and is a favorite of mine)

There is also a lovely drive from Todtnau (a little further north of Todtmoos) to Freiburg which is outstanding.

A bit closer to home is Schluchsee but I cannot remember any of the routes I have driven as it was a few years ago I was there. I do remember the scenery was spectacular and I had good fun

May I also suggest that you have a little drive around the Bodensee area just to the SW of you. Very pretty and all of the tourists should have gone back by now!

Top man! Thanks, i'll be sure to give it a blast in my rental 1.6 focus! Will there be tolls or anything like that?

I have it all planned and i'm ready to go, roll on Saturday!! In total i'll do approx 170 miles :-)

No problem. Have a good time but watch out for cyclists (should not be too many this time of year) as they seem to think their bikes are as wide as a car sometimes! Have fun

Freiburg-Schauinsland, great drive.....as the rest of the Black Forest...

RainerM - I think i'll be hitting the hill climb you mentioned, here's my plan of attack starting at Neuhausen - Bad Sackingen, Todtmoos, St. Blasien, Gorwihl, Todtnau, Freiburg and back to Neuhausen

When you get to Gorwihl I would advise retracing your steps to Todtmoos. Good fun in reverse!! Oh, I forgot to say, by a Black Forest map just in case. Their are lots and lots of little short cuts that are great fun too!!

Okay i'll buy a map. I'm thinking about maybe going to Zurich to have a look round tomorrow and do the drive on Sunday as I believe everywhere is shut on a Sunday?

I was so bored last night in Neuhausen (thats where i'm staying), anyone around these parts who fancies a beer?
