To all with cars in Switzerland, do you use insurance companys from the UK or companys in Switzerland? Any help/advice would be appreciated.
My car is still uk registed and insured, as long as your fully comp in the uk then your 3rd party in europe, a green card will make you fully comp in europe too, but the ins co.'s will only give you that 3 times a year for a few weeks (well ours will anyway) your car needs to be fully UK legal, so tax, mot etc. Your supposed to register your car here after 6 or 12 months (can't remember which) but I know people with uk cars that have been here much much longer. My car is registered and insured in Switzerland. You'll find the insurance here more expensive, that's for sure. But if anything bad did happen, you'd know for sure that you'd be covered and I expect the swiss insurers are much less likely to quibble.
If it helps, you should be able to use your no claims bonus from the UK. In my case, I could claim 15 years NCB even though I had only owned my own car for the previous 5 years.
Hope this helps!
