You don't think the Swiss give a stuff about fitting in with their neighbours do you? wink

From my experience you'll need to get some CHF's for general street spend. I would guess some hotels / tourist establishments might take Euros at an extortionate rate.

Luzern is very nice - hope the weather improves for you, right now we have a sudden thunderstorm in Zug which isn't that far down the road

No problem. Despite the fact that Switzerland is surrounded by Euroland, all hotels, and most shops. restaurants will accept payments in Euros. However, the exchange rate applied will be to your disadvantage. If you have a credit card (VISA, MasterCard, etc.) you can get around without any cash. You can also change you euros for CHF very easily. If you are travelling by car here and using the motorways, don't forget to buy the "vignette" for a cost of CHF 40.- which allows you to use all the motorways. True to the cliché, Switzerland remains a country of finance and banking!
PS. Wish I had some more (money) so I could buy an Ultima....

Thanks. I'll get £50 worth for taxis and the odd beer, the rest can go on credit card.

Got the vignette.

Whilst I'm here is it still true that Switzerland has cheaper petrol than it's surrounding countries.

Hang on ignore that last request:

http://www.aaroadwatch.ie/eupetrolprices/

Looks about 1/6 cheaper than France and Italy.

Hi Daz

Today I paid CHF 1.89 for Superplus (98) :-)) I think around
0,95 GBP depending on rate.
Rates and petrol-prices vary according to region. We are rather happy here
where I live.

See you all on Saturday in Stresa :-))))

Sorry my ignorance, but what is hoons, hooners, hooning, etc. Am I correct to think that's its driving around with others in a convoy and people who like to do it for example??

Hallo

I had the same problem, ;-) with that word, yes that what you
think, but you can drive on your own or in small groups, there is
a road-book,we leave in the morning as per previous evening "effects" ;-)

Have a look here:

Looking forward to meeting you sooner or later.

Andrew.

Of course. Rainer can't make the planned route as he's travelling from Southern Germany, so we'll be seeing him in Stressa.

Should have in our group travelling from Lucern:

SL500 (me, not as quick as my usual cars, but Rainer will verify it can be driven quickly...)
Maser 4200 - Grimston Barr
F355GTS - Putneydude
Westfield - .Adam.

Not sure if Bob or Pikey are travelling via Luzern.

I'll email you details of the route.

cheers

Nothing much to add other my appreciation for what is lining up to be a fantastic trip! I was in Stresa last September, and it was very, very wet. The mountains and lakes create their own microenvironment, so have some waterproofs to hand just in case.

I travel to and in Switzerland a lot and have used Euros to pay for taxis, drinks etc. The first time I did this it was by mistake when I forgot which country I was in, but the taxi driver gave me a Euro fare without any issues. Many taxis accept credit cards too, just check before you get in. They normally have a little VISA/AMEX etc sticker on the back windows if they do. So I wouldn't worry too much about loading up with Swiss Francs Daz.

Have a great time! woohoo

We will thanks mate.

Andrew, when you know the weather forecast, give me a call if you wish to join us/arranega meet. I imagine we'll be leaving Luzern at about 8.30/9am. I'll be leaving my office (no PC access) on lunchtime Thursday 4th. My mobile will be on all the time though.
