Good Places to Stop on route to Italy?
Discussion
Were driving down to Italy for a wedding later in the year and are planning to stop over in Switzerland for a day or two on the way down and then again on the way back, looking for some advice on good places to stay/visit?
On the way down we would be looking for somwhere within a decent drive from Calais (probably North) 8hrs??, then on the way back we are pretty open on places to stay as long as we get back to calais for the ferry back.
Also probably looking at Camping so somewhere to accommodate this....
Thanks
Tom

Basel is around 7-8 hours from Calais by Autoroute. Advise Calais Laon, Reims, Verdun, Metz, towards Strasbourg, exit Autoroute at Saverne, head south to Molsheim, take new fast road to rejoin Autoroute south of Molsheim. Follow Autoroute to swiss border at Basel. Don't forget SFR 40,- Autobahn vignette for CH (can be bought at border).
Camping sites nearby are in Lörrach Germany, just over the border. Don't know any in CH as I don't camp. (drop me a line for this site via my handle)
A good drive would be following Autobahn south via Luzern towards the Gotthard, then turn off and drive the Sustenpass, then the Grimsel, Furka and then the Gotthard, then heading South to Milano. Stay in Tessin, good weather, food and scenery before filling up in CH (cheapest in Europe now) before heading into Italy.
Enjoy!
