My daughter is Swiss resident for Uni, and she wants to get a Swiss driving license, she has an Indonesian passport and can get an Indonesian license, but she is never there long enough even on Holiday, and they can't be swapped for a local license in most western countries so not worth doing. She is 20 years old and has held a national race license since she was 15, she raced my old Lotus 7, so she can steer, change gear etc, better than most, but has never driven on the road.
I'd appreciate an impartial opinion on the procedure to get a license, how long does it take, is there a probation period after passing the test, and what is the likely cost?

You have to do a first aid course, a theory test and a practical test, so it's a fairly involved process. I assume she speaks German/French/Italian depending on where she is studying?

Cost depends on the number of lessons needed but somewhere between 1-2k CHF would be the ballpark I'd expect to be in for the full process if she isn't totally hopeless.

So can you go to a 'school' and book the lot in one place? Where I live you go to the school and they arrange everything, theory teaching booking of the theory test then lessons then book the practical test.
She certainly isn't hope less she can catch a Lotus 7 that is over steering on slicks, in fact that is my problem she may be overconfident, so I like the idea of the first aid test, risk awareness training etc.
