Me and the wife are coming to Switzerland at the end of Jan to visit some friends in Basel for a few days, we are looking for somewhere fairly near to spend a few extra days in the mountains, log cabin or nice hotel, bit of skiing and some decent nightlife
Can any of you point us in the right direction, spent the last few hours look on trip advisor etc. and its about as clear as mud
Thanks all

Jason, You're at least an hours drive from skiing in Basel, either the Feldberg (D) or the Grand Ballon (F), or into the central Alps behind Bern (90 mins minimum)..... and there is no snow ATM. Log cabins are rare here too..... If you want to pay WAY over the odds stay in Basel, if not look for a hotel in Germany or France (both borders within 15 minutes of central Basel). ALSO don't forget your swiss Autobahn vignette (ONLY for CH-Autobahns, if only going into Basel you can avoid them).... If there is snow on the roads you MUST have winter tyres!
Plenty of good relatively cheap hotels in the Lörrach(D) area (mostly i the villages), also in the St Louis(F) area, however nightlife is poor, probably have to go into Basel for that, but thats very reserved.....
Eating out, come to Germany or France, that seems to be what all the Swiss do as CH is very expensive. If I can help with anything drop me a PM, I live in Lörrach.......

myswitzerland.com, the website of the national tourist authority is worth looking at. As noted, it's really short on snow at the moment - the children's lessons have been cancelled. If you are going to book something I would find as high a resort as possible or even better one with skiing on a glacier.
