Take a look at the ex-pat sites like http://www.englishforum.ch/ or local ones like http://zug4you.ch/home.html/http://zug4you.ch/home...

We sold our R32 there for peanuts as were leaving the country. I know lots of ex-pats sold their cars for next to nothing as where in the same boat.

If you work for an international company they sometime sell off cars too, my old company offered ex-bosses cars for cheap money.

What's so bad about Geneva, by the way?

I am guessing it is busy and expensive?

The cheaper cars are on www.anibis.ch
Otherwise try car4you.ch or comparis.ch (which links to most car advertising sites).

I wouldn't like to live in Geneva, nightlife is rubbish for a town its size and its expensive. Out in the mountains however is great smile

edit: cheap is relative.... don't expect UK prices.
If you're buying new or almost new, import from the EU (France/Germany) and take advantage of the lower taxes. Older used cars are less expensive than neighbouring countries though.

I am hoping to move there soon-ish.

Just about to qualify after re-training as a solicitor, kids have grown up, wife wants a divorce - so looking for a change of scenery that is close enough to the UK to allow kids to come and see me.

I quite fancy living somewhere near the alps, good roads, central to Europe, low#ish taxes.

I would probably want to live 30 minutes drive out from any of the cities to keep rent costs down and have a chance of finding a place with garage space for a couple of cars to tinker with/restore in my spare time.

If I had a job in Geneva, I'd probably look to further round the lake - personally it'd be Montreux and commute by train (1hr)

Check out glocals. It's an expat site mainly for Geneva with a useful classifieds section. I got my car from there from someone leaving the country in a hurry for a knockdown price

Also Geneva isn't so bad once you find some good places to go out but it's not a city where you can just wander about and stumble across decent nightlife unfortunately
