Mclaren import
Discussion
"Switzerland" barely exists other than as a concept - it just a loose association of 26 Cantons and you will need to refer to your Canton's rules as there may be important differences.
I imported a new Disco in to Vaud in 2011 and it was fairly painless process albeit somewhat more painful that it should have been. e.g. they spent about 10 mins going over it with with a tape measure (seriously!) to see if it wasn't a Bowler Wildcat in disguise.
My import costs were circa 12% of the invoiced tax free price (circa 4% duty plus 8% VAT on everything) plus a day of my time to sort a few things out. I'm not so clued-up on the current regime but understand that there is a CO2 based charge that will almost certainly catch you but doubt that it will cripple you as the 12C has a 279 g/km rating which is rather awesome compared to say an F430 at 420 g/km.
Let us know how you get on.

Watch out very carefully the recent CO2 tax for import. You may really need to see a local importer that will take a commission but include your vehicle in his own company average. The tax is based on the average CO2 emissions from one importer. If you import one high CO2 car, you're absolutely screwed (astonishing tax). But if you compensate with importing 2 cygnets, it will be cheaper (may even get cancelled), and you'll have them for resale. As a company handling dozens of cars, it's much easier to get around this than as an individual.
This tax is federal by the way, as it is done on the customs level.
Administratively speaking, it is quite easy. A local MOT, some papers and you're done.

It turns out that the CO2 tax may not be such a big issue on a McLaren as there apear to be limits for niche/small (<10,000 unit) manfacturers and for McLaren appear to have been set at close to the current models' stats......
Interesting that this captures Ferrari (part of Fiat) and Aston (makes a mockery of the Cygnet strategy!)
Therefore, the big bills would come if you were to import a high-CO2 vehicle from a mainstream manufacturer....

You can plug in your details here and it will tells you the damage... [can switch language] http://www.bfe.admin.ch/themen/00507/05318/05535/i...
Also there do appear to be companies out there that can offer assistance (I have no experience of them)... http://www.co2-exchange.ch/services.html
