My teenage son (just turned 15) is studying German and French a school.

I am trying to arrange a short 'placement' somewhere in Switzerland for him next summer or in Easter so that he can improve his language skills.

Anyone run a chalet or something similar that can use a free pair of hands for a week or two or need a pet sitter etc??

Cheers

I can't help unfortunately, but I would say look for somewhere in the French part. Swiss German really is a completely different language to German and at GCSE level it will confuse the hell out of him and in Zurich at least quite often if people here someone speaking "normal" German with an English accent they would rather reply in English than German.

Cheers for the advice.

Might look into France and Germany separately in that case.

John, I will ask Verena our slightly mad secretary. She is fluent in frankly everything and knows the local pet scene. If anybody knows anything like that out here it will be her.

How good are his languages currently? In the French side there are less ppl that speak English to help him out. On the German side far more speak English.

I was hoping you'd chime in!

He is in his first year of GCSEs - has done French and German for 3 years. He is a good student - but as you may expect, they don't do languages all day, 5 days a week.

I only mentioned pet sitting as he really loves animals etc I am sure he'd turn his hand at anything suitable for a 15 /16 year old.

He likes both French and German, so doesn't have a preference. It's a long shot, but thought I would ask on here. Basically, anything at all would be a good experience for him.
