Hi

On our trip to France later in the year we will be staying in Annecy for 3 nights. For one of the days we plan a day trip to Geneva.

I would be greatly obliged if I could get one or two suggestions of what to visit whilst there?

Thanks

Graham

Hi Graham, depends what your after really.
I can recommend some places to eat and drink at normal money.
If your talking the tourist type thing not sure to be honest, a walk along the lake weather permiting is always very nice for a walk or you can do the boat trips around the lake as well.

The little yellow boats that are part of the public transport system are a good alternative if you want to get on the water (and free if you have a day travel card).

I would have thought that the main day tourist trail would include the old town to the cathedral, the university old building / park and up towards the UN. If it rains the red cross museum is a sobering experience.

If you want cars then there are the usual porsche / ferrari / dealers plus Carugati who are the Swiss Pagani agents. Alternatively just go to Parking garage Mont Blanc.

Consider going a little bit further along the lake to the towns of Nyon and Morges. I find them quite friendly and laid back, with great views along the lake and across to the Alps & Mont Blanc. Good food and it is nice to walk along the lakeside. The drive from Geneva along the "normal" road (non-autoroute) is quite pleasant and on a Sunday there is often quite a lot of automotive eye candy.

Agreed, Nyon the far better option in my books as I hate towns anyway, we are just the other side with some nice spots along the lake for lunch etc.

Nyon? Are you mad? Avoid the place like the plague, it has only one interesting feature and thats its little train. Hmm, I suppose you could argue it takes you out to the local Ferrari and Maser dealership, but thats about as far as it goes. The restaurant by the Merc dealer does a decent buffet lunch though.

Id stick around Annecy to be honest, stayed there before and its a lovely little town.

just seen your thread. am fortunate enough to visit annecy every 4-6 weeks. stay in and around annecy; it's a great place. if looking for other things to see and do...take lunch in talloires, buy some roblochon from the farming co-operative in thones [on left hand side as entering the village], go to la clusaz and le grand bornand, try a good lunch or supper at le foly lac des confins...or, if you like mountain walking and have your gear with you...pack a good picninc [cheese, bread, saucisson, wine, fruit] put your boots on and head over to the col des annes; it's an easy walk for a good few hours and very picturesque.
