Was staying in London back at beginning of August. Woke up the day after a late night and drove back to Kent. Completely forgot to pay the congestion charge until five days later. I tried the website but there is no mechanism to pay if it's later than the following ,or before you have received a penalty. Called the TfL number and they told me to wait for the penalty (I didn't mention it was a Swiss registered car).

Last week a fine arrived. I'm quite surprised they took the effort to track me down to Switzerland, and then to only charge me the same £60.

That's the good news. The bad news will come when i receive the inevitable administration charge from my friends at the strassenverkehrsamt.

Ho hum!

I didn't think there was legal grounds for the Swiss hand over details of your licence plates to foreigners.... Although I think some cantons allow anyone access so perhaps they got your address off the Internet.

I drove into the congestion zone in my Swiss registered car a few years back. Drove straight out again as soon as I could turn around. Didn't get anything in the post.

Have you thought of telling a wider audience about this? Can I suggest englishforum? Thanks
