New to Zurich, just started my second week in fact, currently I live in the city center of Zurich and am wondering what to do this weekend.
I have been lead to believe from my colleagues that this weekend is going to be rather busy with some sort of street love party, so I will probalby stay in town for that.
However it leaves Sunday free smile
So, starting in Zurich, i would like to go for a little drive, ideally a mountain/lake drive to for say 2 hours, something to do/ eat/ focal point of driving for 2 hours, and then back via a different route?
Any tips / ideas/ things to see would be great
So if you see a black Boxster with GB plates driving around, that will be me smile

Hi there, welcome to Zurich.

2 hours doesn't really leave you with many options, especially around Zurich and the drive along the lake gets tiresome quickly, especially as you're just passing through one town after the other...

What you could do however is drive to Adliswil, then take the Albispass (a small pass, but nice to drive when there's not much traffic) to Türlersee. From there head to Sihlbrugg and over the Hirzel to Wädenswil. From there, you have the option of dining at "Halb-Insel Au" which has a very nice view of the lake. Then head back to Zurich by following the lake. This route (without the stop at Insel-Au) gives about 1 hour of driving. If you want the full 2 hours, my advice would be to extend it with a detour via Aegeri. I haven't driven there much, but a look at the map shows some roads that could be rather nice to drive.

As an alternative, you could also continue to Pfäffikon, then to Rapperswil (cross the Lake there to the north side) and then drive back on the other side, perhaps with a detour over Forch/Pfannenstil to Zurich. That might push the 2 hour drive though and if you already have more time available, perhaps driving further than Zurich (Walensee or towards Luzern) might yield a better driving experience alltogether.

Off the Toss valley around Turbenthal has some good quiet roads but I guess its going to be a bit more than 2 hours. Probably go on the motorway direction St. Gallen to Effretikon then head for the valley via the Kyburg area to avoid Winterthur. the area east of Turbenthal and north of Bauma where the Cantons of ZH, TG & SG meet.

If you can squeeze a bit longer the north-south roads in the south of the black forest are worth going to. Unless you go early this will be busier, but more opportunities for a nice coffee / cake stop.

Grüezi smile

Dolder Oldtimer festival is on in Zurich this weekend up at the Dolder hotel. Should hopefully be good so long as the weather stays fair.
