Zug - Stolen Bentley
Discussion
As reported on Wednesday of last week, a CHF 420,000 Bentley was stolen from a garage in the city on the night of Monday 18 July.
The owner of the 2010 Bentley Continental Supersports convertible had parked his car at around 8 pm in the Riedpark area that evening but when he went to collect it the following morning it had disappeared.
Police appealed for witnesses and, indeed, some came forward but, as the car has still not been traced, the police are again appealing for help from the public. The car had apparently been spotted on the Tuesday in a residential area of Dietikon in the canton of Zurich, and again in a convoy with two other Bentleys between Uster and Pfäffikon in the canton of Zurich (not the Pfäffikon in the canton of Schwyz). In the evening it was allegedly spotted in Altstetten near Zurich. The insurance company concerned is now offering a CHF 10,000 reward for information leading to the retrieval of the vehicle.
The day before the disappearance of the car, another Bentley was reported stolen from Wollerau in the canton of Schwyz. This time it was a CHF 300,000 Continental Flying Spur, which was also stolen from the locked garage of a private home. Then, on 22 July, another Bentley and a BMW were stolen from a garage in Wohlen in the neighbouring canton of Aargau. It is not clear if the incidents are connected. So far no trace of three Mercedes and BMW cars stolen from a business garage in Schindellegi in the canton of Schwyz in January has been found.
According to experts, Bentley cars are supposedly difficult to break into as they can only be opened and started with a key specific to the vehicle. "A thief who can crack these special codes is a real professional," said a mechanic, who preferred to remain anonymous.
Indeed, the police think a professional band is at work. "It is not usual for so many expensive cars to have been stolen in such a short period of time," said Florian Grossman, spokesman of the Schwyz police. While they have no concrete proof, Zug police spokeswoman Judith Aklin added, "We know that luxury vehicles are stolen to order and some are found abroad, particularly in eastern Europe. But they could also still be in Switzerland and border guards are keeping a look-out for the vehicles."
Anyone who may have seen the cars is kindly requested to call the police on 041 728 41 41.
