August 1 in Zurich

Hi
I am moving to Zurich and arriving ( by car) on August 1, which I believe is a national holiday.
I have an apartment in downtown Zurich, so can anyone recommend what and where to see things, would be nice if anything is happening on the lake, if not I can drive to a better destination/ different lake if it is worth while?
Best place to view the fireworks I here you celebrate with?

Welcome to Switzerland. Not sure about the fireworks in Zurich, as most places seem to have their own SeeFest. Zug had it's last week with lots of FireWorks. Might want to try EnglishForum.ch for more specific info?
