Now that the arrival of my little Lotus is imminent, I have started thinking about track days again. I did a few back in the UK and never used to take out specific insurance for it. But I wonder if anyone has done that here in Switzerland? I checked my Zurich Connect policy and it is excluded and I assume that is the case with all insurers in Switzerland - or does someone cover it? Anyone done track days and taken out specific trackday insurance? From where?

IMO there are no track days in CH, as the swiss are anti-motorsport. Some clubs however do have slaloms, usually on airfields.....
That's why you can't get insurance. BTW you can't in D either as it is a "racing" event. You can't insure your car for track racing anyway!
You could try some of the events that PistenClub.de organise, but still no insurance.....
The Nordschleife btw is a normal road, although a toll-road, where normal traffic rules apply, so your normal D insurance covers it! (but check with your swiss insurer just in case!)

You are right that there are non in CH, but a number are arranged in France, Germany and Austria. I was thinking about insurance for those. Interesting my insurance does cover me for competitive cross country drives as well as driver training on track.

Allianz Suisse can extend road insurance to cover track days (aka driver training days). Done it a few times but they only cover up to 150k, and you have to have your road insurance with them.

I used REIS in the UK to cover my GTO. They were happy to do a non-UK car, non-UK resident.

When I competed in the Swiss Porsche Championship with my 964RS, I had full coverage for the road AND track. It was a company in Hamburg if I recall which contracted with Lloyds. Expensive (around CHF 3'000.- à year) but gave me total peace of mind. You could even insure engine damage. Wrote off a 968CS and was reimbursed the value I chose (reasonable) to insure. This was in the 90's so may have changed since. I can check and see if this is still possible if someone needs the info.

Hey Jakob,

I've done a few trackdays with Speed-industries.ch, mainly in Anneau du Rhin which is close by, but always without the extra insurance cover. I tend to just drive careful and usually with the right minded people, it isn't a problem. With visibility in the Exige being very poor, I also tend to let people by more easily to not have them attempt a silly maneuver in the corners where I wouldn't see them. Not the best solution for peace of mind, but given I only do a few track days a year, it's okay.

I'm not sure, but I think you can also get a 'day-insurance' but they are very very pricey. Not sure where I have seen or heard this either...

Cheers Phil. That is kind of the route I am thinking (and have done in the past). Will probably not do any days for the rest of the year, but will for sure next year...

An interesting aside is that (from what I was informed by my broker) that the compulsory 3rd party cover would be applicable if the car being driven was someone else's. I extended mine to worldwide for something like 30CHF and the cover is unto CHF 8m. The owner has to be a private individual and of course has to give permission. I use this to drive an M5 and others in the UK. There seems no limitation excluding track driving.
