Just a question for the Honda gents!

2005,05,Cosmic Grey EP3,28k,1 owner,Two Honda stamps....£8000.

Should I be worried I'm paying that amount for a non premier model??

Not my bag to be honest. Seems like a lot of cash for what is a fairly rubbish car. A Type R maybe worth a punt (if you like that kind of thing) but I would keep my money and go and find something enjoyable to drive. Sorry..

I think the mileage is what's pushed the price up smile Serviced every 4,000 miles by Honda also. My current car has been nothing but trouble so I have to get something reliable

Sounds like a good EP3 as long as all of it's servicing has been done by a Honda dealership. My EP3 has only been taken to Honda for servicing and I would only buy one again if it had FHSH.
Keep it in the Vtec biggrin

So you wouldn't buy one that been serviced by a specialist? TGM for example, who im willing to bet know a lot more about a Type R than the muppets at your local Honda garage.

Sounds a lot, you should be able to get a good one for 7500 easy, might take a few attempts though.

Sounds like a rip-off to me. I recently saw a 2005 grey CTR with 40kish miles for 8k at a Honda Garage.

It does seem a little optimistic on price. Does it have other stamps in the book or is it just the two? Try and check the MOT history to make sure the mileage hasn't been messed with. There are plenty of cosmic Ep3's around so take your time and pick a good one, preferably a Premier as the Recaro seats are very good.

As for service history, as long as they have been serviced at a reputable specialist, every 12,500 miles or every year you'll be fine. TGM in Fleet have had my car for the last five years and they do an amazing job and unlike Honda, don't tell me I need a cam belt change.....

AtomMan what UK car do you suggest buying for circa £7k on an 05 plate, with reasonably low mileage that has the performance of an EP3, is mechanically bullet proof and is engaging and entertaining to drive?!

VW Golf GTi Mk5? capable cars, but not nearly as engaging, more expensive to buy, more expensive to run and the engine is hardly inspiring. You will not get much for £8-£9k

Renaultsport Megane. For £7k you MIGHT get a high mileage R26, but I doubt it. The 225 didn't set the world alight and didn't get very good reviews. Servicing costs are high, belt changes are expensive, electrics aren't great. If the EP3 divides opinion on the way it looks, I won't mention the backside of the Megane....

Focus ST. Great chassis and a lovely engine note and the interior is pretty nice. On the downside they are too nose heavy and very thirsty. You will struggle to find an ST on an 05 plate with 30k miles for £7k unless it's a CAT D.

The only negative is that EP3's are getting so affordable that young numpties buy them, vtec everywhere, have big accidents and put up insurance premiums.

The muppets I use seem to be able to do just fine!

Yeah, but specialists are just as good, if not better. Dismissing a CTR because it hasn't been serviced at a Honda garage is crazy.

And thanks. biggrin

You're forgetting that EP3's are 6-10 years old now, and for many they are either at the stage where it's pointless maintaining a service history. Alternatively they have fallen into the hands of Honda fans (like myself) where it soon becomes obvious they are some of the most simple cars to work on, therefore leaving no need to take it to somewhere to be fleeced for a fluid change.

I don't even look at service history when i buy a car TBH; as long as the oils not tar black and the car drives well enough and stands up to a good prod about then i'd be happy enough seeing as i'd be servicing the car straight off for my own piece of mind.

EP3's give off pretty telltale signs if they're good or bad (Steering rack, loose heat shields, noisy clutch release bearing, rough gear change).

As for 8k; i paid about that for my 04 cosmic last year. Cosmics will hold their price considerably better than the other UK colours TBH.

A CTR is only worth what you are willing to pay for it to be honest.
8k for a 2005 with that mileage seems fair to me, if its been looked after in the correct manner.
As many have said, you aint gona get a lot for that kind of money looking at other Marquee's. CTR is pretty bullet proof and if looked after, you could be getting yourself a quick sorted car that will last you for many years to come.

I have been on the lookout lately for a car, Focus RS Mk11 came into the equation, as did FD2 and EP3. I was close to putting a deposit down on an EP3 thats on here with 7k miles on a 2005 plate Silver. The guy wanted over 10k for it, and to be honest i was willing to pay that, as i have owned two CTRs in the past, 2003 and 2005. I personally think they are fantastic cars and will always have a soft spot for them.
However i was lucky to find a nice FD2 that i will hopefully be picking up in a weeks time!!

Regarding servicing, i also would be more than happy to leave my pride and joy in the hands of a specialist, rather than main chain dealerships.

Horses for courses, and we all have different thoughts and belief's on the matter.

You were willing to pay 10k for a 2005 CTR?

Wow, do you want to buy my DC5 for 13k?

Yeh why not, fantastic cars, hard to find with that mileage, however seeing i bought an FD2, i'll pass on your DC5. Anyway, some FN2s out there with 20k+ for more than 10k, and i know what i would rather have.

I paid £8600 for my 2004 04 plate EP3 Facelift Type R - 23,000 miles, NightHawk Black, Air Con and FHSH but that was nearly 4 years ago!

Seems a little expensive to me, ignore all the negative comments re the Type-R, its a fantastic car and a hoot to drive, shop around you'll either find a newer one for the same money or a little cheaper for same quality.

FYI.. *cheap punt* mine is for sale.. 48k, FHSH and a bargain at £6500 biggrin

I really hope everyone looking for a DC5 has your opinion when i come to sell mine. Do you know why there hard to find with that mileage? Because it's a hot hatch, it's supposed to be used, it's not a old Bugatti.

Id much rather buy one with 40k miles thats been loved and driven, for 7k than one thats been sat on a driveway for 6 years, that you think is worth 3 more than it actually is.

I sold mine last August for 7600 and it was premier with 38k miles.

Fn2 has nout to do with a 6 year old EP3, 8k for a 04 plate EP3 is crazy.
