Remarkable... I receive this email from a Pistonheader

I quote...

"ok no problem, i will be offering £15,500 for this. I am ready to buying it now and i am at sea at the moment as i am an oceanographer and due to the nature of my work, phone calls making and visiting of website are restricted but i squeezed out time to check this advert and send you an email regarding it. I really want to buy this from you and i will be paying you with my bank account, I insisted on bank because i only have access to my bank account online and also paypal, but i can pay you from my bank account, as i have my bank a/c access online. If my mode of payment is acceptable just send me your bank information,(Bank Details) so i can pay in right away. Make sure you get back to me so that i can make the payment. I have a private courier agent that will come for the pick up after payments has been made, so no shipping included. And if you dont have bank account i can pay you via paypal account, it is very easy to set up, go to www.paypal.co.uk and get it set up, after you have set it up i will only need the e-mail address you use for registration with paypal so as to put the money through. Pick up agent will come for the pick up as soon as i have made the payments, i would have loved to talk to you on phone but due to the nature of my work, our phone is down right now due to bad weather, we can only communicate with our base for now.

Bank Name:
Sort Code:
Account Number:

Indeed, what a star.

I did once have a guy who paid me from Ireland, then flew down to collect my car. I took the car to the airport where he drove home from. Paid me my full asking price and I paid for his flight costs! Nice deal for me!

I had pretty much exactly the same email from a "Donna" about my car on PH. Do people really fall for this?

I replied back saying I'd much rather deal with you in person and willing to hold the car for a electronic deposit.

"They replied saying I really want this bike and would like to make full payment know, please send my your bank and paypal details"

I replied "Bike??? Really, I'm selling a car andnot interested in dealing with a scammer"...

lol indeed. Its so silly they try all of this business! Rather annoying too!

I have had a few calls now about my car and they have been callers from Autotrader rather than PH. Lets see what happens... fingers crossed.

I recieved similar emails when I had my Z up for sale, as you say the emails come from Autotrader.

I had an aid rescuer working in Japan and a number of emails from people with silly sounding names like:

Rick Sigvard
Joy Butt
Lucy Brown
Colin Mutt

Good luck with the sale.

I finally sold the 'Z' last week to a private buyer. We than had the problem over the payment, cash, cheque, bankers draft or bank transfer. In the end I settled for a bank transfer. Relatively easy, just make sure that the transfer is type 'FPI'. I beleive only 6 or 8 UK banks use the FPI (faster payment in).

The emails were via Pistonheads!

What did you end up buying after the Z?

Did you get the cash first into your account before you handed over the car? How did it work?

Don't laugh, I bought a Micra 1.0E to tide me over for the time being. At the moment I'm not sure what to get next.

The buyer transferred the cash into my account the day before. The transfer is instant. The only details you need to give out is your account number and sort code. Make sure the payment comes in from a UK bank and it is a FPI payment. The transaction type will show on your statement.

If in doubt log on to the website like HSBC and look up 'Bank Transfer'.

I was a bit doubtful myself, so I called in the bank to check it out.

Sounds smart. I did the same thing. I suppose as a buyer I would be hestitant to transfer cash to a random person!

I sold my TT in the same way... asked for a transfer.

Micra... jesus. Thats quite a downgrade. Thats sensible though. I'll be carless for a while... so I cant laugh at the Micra!

Just an update. A really nice chap came this weekend. Took the car for a test drive for 20-30mins and loved it. The car is as new!!! So the gentleman offered me a price, we spoke and I accepted. It was a really nice experience.

The gentleman will be transferring the cash over this week and hopefully collecting it this weekend.

I am kinda sad as it is an end to an era. I will not be able to own a two seater like this for a while yet. Also, the car is amazing in every respect. Top end CD changer, and alarm and lovely colour and condition. It's mint. Sad times...

Well I hope the buyer enjoys it as much as I have done so!
