I'm new to all this iVTEC malarkey.
Discussion
After many years of happy scooby ownership, I've sold my soul to the iVTEC devil. I've just got me a bog standard Accord 2 ltr iVTEC. it's a lot better than I thought it would be, but I can't help but think it could do with a remap and a supercharger. Given that this is Pistonheads, I guess some of you lot have done this. If you could give me a rough idea of what doing this costs, I'd be grateful .
Here you go mate

I can talk to you all day about K20's but know nothing about the Accord's lump

Unless I'm reading this wrong, I think the OP means he has bought a CL7 Accord and does indeed have a K20 (K20a6).
?
Nope, I believe I've got the "efficiency" 2 ltr version of the iVTEC lump (K20Z2)not the "performance" 2.4 ltr version. Something to do with which cams have their advance controlled. I believe the inlet cam isn't quite as lumpy either. I didn't realise it was quite as complicated as this. I'll probably get a few months of improved MPG in, then get bored of saving money / the planet, and go and buy an NSX or teg.?

Oh yeah, I understand that you don't have the 190bhp 2.4 (K24a1) but I was always under the impression that the 2.0 petrol was the K20a6 (163bhp or something).
I know it's not "full-blown" VTEC but if you do fancy messing with it, people in The States and Europe have had success with going forced-induction with those engines (which if you're searching forums for info is very similar to, if not the same as, the K20a3 in the US). Well over 200bhp is easily achievable on standard internals from what I've read.

European Accords can't use Hondata ECU unless you forego the deadlock or something like that, but it's what you need if you want to bolt on the Comptech super.
If you want to play with VTEC, get a DC5 (Grp 20 in old money!) if the insurance premiums let you, and have fun.
Our Accords are the first engineered by the marketing dept ones, unfortunately, as even the Acura TSX (2.4 only) is the Accord but with the better interior from the JDM Inspire.
The US Accord is the converse, and I don't think has had much, if any tuning done with it.
The only alternative is to switch to an imported Euro R, which you can tune since it has the correct K20 engine & ECU.

I was starting to get the impression that trying to tune this would be more hassle than it's worth. I think I'll run it for a year, then get something like a teg DC5 or something else with a type R set up.If you want to play with VTEC, get a DC5 (Grp 20 in old money!) if the insurance premiums let you, and have fun.
