Hi guys and girls,

Just been having a discussion with my mate who has just bought a EP3. We've both owned them before but this time he has bought a LSD out of a DC5. The question is how long would it take the 2 of us to fit it?

We are both engineers, although not automotive, with a decent amount knowledge, however I have never opened a gearbox up before. As Clarkson would say, "how hard can it be?".

We have access to a garage with a pit and all the tools you could wish for, apart from any special tools that may be required.

Any advice would be greatly received as would any links to guides and so on.

Cheers in advance! biggrin

I hope you are not the sort of clever engineers like this lady:

If you are i say you should just pay someone who knows what they are doing to do it.

I own the car in question and no we are a bit more advanced than the woman in that post smile. Bern works for Sheffield Uni/Boeing and I am a R&D Engineer for a global engineering company so resources and technical aptitude aren't a problem. However as Bern stated, neither of us have ever split a gearbox before so were a little apprehensive but also relishing the challenge. Any help would be hugely appreciated though guys!

Feck!

Hopefully we are a bit more competent than that! My mate works with gas seals testing them and such stuff and I work on aerospace stuff for rolls-royce. Its only nuts and bolts!

So long as it doesn't end up like this.......

CPL Racing did mine in approx 7 and a bit hours. Replace the clutch at the same time and save yourself another job at a later date. You need to drop the front subframe by the way.

I paid £350 for fitting but that was nearly 7 years ago now.
