Hi, i just wanted to ask some of your advice.

It is called the usable supercar but what are they like to live with everyday all year round? Also i am currently looking for one but there doesn't seem to be many for sale, are there any special places/dealers that specialise in the NSX? Should i be looking to buy the best i can afford, my budget is £16k which would probably get me an early one with quite high mileage. If looked after well and serviced correctly, one approaching 100,000miles shouldn't be a problem should it? I would use it everyday.

Any advice/opinions much appreciated!biggrin

Hi,
If services correctly, they'll do galactic mileage without issue. Some of the cars in the states (where the majority were sold) are up around the 3-400K mike mark.
Quite a few NSX owners use them as daily drivers. They're actually pretty economical on a run and the seats are very comfortable.
Pricing and availability are a different story. There will be a small number of early manuals available for mid teens. Just pay attention to panel fit and service history. For detailed Information, go to NSXCB.

Cheers,

James.

Hi Scott,

Well as an opener I'd have to say that I think your budget is too low - as you say there are not many for sale, and the ones that do come up tend to be snapped up quickly if they are decent. Some magazine articles have quoted £16k as a possibility, but there simply aren't any good ones for sale at that level, and the few that have gone over the past year have usually had something amiss (either JDM import, auto, big mileage, dodgy history, molested or a combination of all of those). I'd say you should be looking for an entry level around the £19k mark to get a decent UK car.

Is it a daily driver? Apart from the visibility (which is very good for a mid engined supercar) no reason why not, its just as useable as a Civic. Nice control weights, comfortable driving position, reasonable fuel efficiency, decent storage space and everything just works with turnkey reliability. They take mileage very well, plenty 200k+ cars in the US with original engine & gearbox. Servicing is generally very sensible, main dealers are OK (there are a handful of 'NSX approved' dealers) and I believe there is a specialist in North London although I don't know who it is.

All that aside, they are fantastic things to drive and a pleasure to own & live with. Go for it!

FWIW after 7 years ownership I'm selling mine shortly frown Although it will be over your stated budget.

cheers,
Steve

In day-to-day use your main worry will be parking it somewhere safe, if you're anything like me. Oh, and sticking even vaguely near speed limits! biggrin

Running costs are variable - 25mpg easy (30mpg on a steady run), tyres not too pricey, brakes and basic servicing also sensible. BUT...repairs and refurbishment work isn't cheap - remember they were £70k cars when new - parts prices from HUK are downright scary, slightly better if pre-planned and imported.
Finding a good car with a good history (refurb work not just stamps-in-the-book) will pay for itself in the long-run, as will having a few £k aside for maintenance if you plan to keep it for more than a year or so.

Specialists - a few good (& very good) indys and a few Honda dealerships that are still rated - depends where you are.

If you're serious, have a nose around on NSXCB - friendly (and VERY knowledgable) bunch on there.

Hi,

They do come up from time to time and the good ones usually appear first on www.nsxcb.co.uk

Lots of info etc to be had. As an example, a 93 150k miler with well documented main dealer history sold this month for around £15k. This car never got advertised anywhere else.

If you come onto the site you could place a wanted add if really serious and you may be surprised by the response, again for cars that are not advertised here or on autotrader etc.

Go for as much history (indy or main dealer) as you can find and if its a daily, it would be worth trying an auto as you could get a later lower mileage car for your money. The auto has lower bhp BUT has a wider torque curve from lower in the rev range so you can pull 90 in 2nd (4 speed box), swift overtakes yet relax when the traffic is heavy. Many daily's are auto due to the smooth drive offered.

Good Luck,

Hope to see you in one soon

regards,
