Just wondering what they compare like in real life driving/ownership really?

I might be coming to one soon from a 1.8 MK2. I love it but being 6"2 I'm just not really very comfortable in it, despite trying a few seat options.

How much more space, leg/headroom, does the S2k offer over the Mx5? any tall buggers driving one that can report how they are like on the old spine after a bit of hooning? smile

Thanks
Rich

I've done it! biggrin

You really do need to sit in an S.
I'm 5' 7" and find it "snug" but very comfortable. For me the seat is just right and I've done lots of long drives with no discomfort. Ergonomics are feel right but what I do feel is that there is less room.
I'm not sure how you would find it being a long feller. What I do know is that if you can get comfortable you'll love it.
Much quicker, rarer, less rattles, even though my MX5 was tight, I was very sorry to see it go and still miss it.

You'll be a tight fit - depends on how you're built, particularly leg-length vs body length.

Sit in one, see for yourself.

(Seats are pretty good but not recaro-quality - not sure I'd want to do cross-continent jaunts but a few hours aren't an issue)

S2000 seats were made by Recaro and they're very comfortable, at least compared to S2 Elise seats wink

6"2 will be a tight fit but you can get lowered seat rails for more headroom.

head over to S2ki for more info

I'm actually in the process of selling mine after 15 months or so of ownership. I had Mx5 turbo for 4 years before hand.

Mine is extensively modded as seen in the for sale ad here:

http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/2404025.htm

They're great cars - very fast, but they're pricey to insure and not recommended if you live in London.

Funnily enough I'm keeping a watching brief on your NB

Thanks, being a tight fit isn't so bad. Its more about not cracking my spine, and my knees where basically in my face in a mex. The S2000 looks like it gives a fair bit more legroom? I've been passenger in one before and it was fine but wasn't looking to buy at the time so didnt take massive amounts of notice to the driving position etc. Will deffo be trying them out properly though. This thread was more just out of interest from people who have experienced both smile

Does the fact yours was a catD make the insurance higher? I've come from skylines and evo's so I'm used to being stung on insurance.. heh

I am 6ft5 (slim build and relatively long legs) and I fit ok in my S2000. Both with hardtop and softop on I don't touch the roof, just. Only slight issue is that there isn't massive amount of space around the left leg between the gearlever and the steering wheel. Have travelled up to 600mi in one day without any issues, though it is slightly 'revvy' at EU motorway speeds.

It would certainly by nicer if the seat was lower though, that way I would feel like I am actually in the car as opposed to on it...

You can get different seat rails to fit the oem seats, popular mod with the taller s2k drivers wink
