Hi everyone

Ive been saving for an EP3 type R for a little while now,and am hoping to buy in March...

Ill have around £6000 to spend, and for that Im hoping for a '04 or '05 with 50ish k miles and FSH.

Not too fussed on colour, but if I find a decent one in red Ill have it!

Also,Ive been quoted £1200 for fully comp insurance (male,25,parked on drive,EN9 (waltham abbey),commuting),does
this seem high,or is this about the going rate for my age?

Thx in advance for the help

27,
off road parking,
2 years NCB,
10k miles per year,

05 Anniversary EP3 CTR

£820 Pa with admiral multi car. (wifes cover is about 250 on her car)

My car is FHSH 46k, Very good condition. I would want 8k for it.

Yea,would love an anniversary, but I realise thats out of my budget...and Ive been waiting for a while...so Im goin in!!!

So potentially it looks as if an '04 CTR with 50 to 60 K miles is do-able at £6K,maybe with a bit of haggling...

I will look at the multicar policy, but I suppose the quote I got sorta tally's up with ur figures...my mileage is also
about 10k/yr and NCB is 4.

Its the group 17 thats the killer bit, but servicing is good value, and they are bomb proof reliability wise. My preimum went up to something silly like 1150 with churchill this year but admiral multicar where far and away the cheapest option.

Make sure the car has new tyres and a full tank..... £110 a corner now and about £65, so its a nearly 10% of your cash.

Go for anything 04' onwards with lowest milage.

You can't expect a car to have a full tank of petrol......

The standard bridgestones are expensive, but id reccomend going for something else when you need new tyres, as there crap in anything but bone dry conditions(though they are great when it's dry)

6k should get you a facelift, in average condition. Mileage isn't really a problem, upto you what your comfortable with. I sold my 55 Plate Prem in August that had 38k miles and had 4 brand new pots on for 7600. If you want 8k for yours Wizard, you'd be waiting a while lol.

Take your time and find a good one, there are plenty of crap one's about as there cheaper now and chavs have em.

There not that bad ! You wont fall off the road with them in the wet, but they don't like wet and cold.... come summer tho you cannot get a better tyre so i just put up with them till it warms up biggrin

Theres loads out there so even if you have the money don't jump in and buy the first you see, its a buyers market out there

OP: FYI, I know someone who has just sold his '05 plate CTR. Red with White wheels and A/C it had 70k miles and he got £3k for it. I told him about this thread, and he was of the opinion that you needn't spend anything like £6k to get what you're after...

Really?

AFAIK it's an honest car. He bought an Impreza STi and sold the Civic privately afterwards.

Not exactly a direct comparison, but three years ago I traded in my '03 CTR for £6,500 so prob on forecourt for £7,500.

Yea,£3k sounds a bit cheap for the car TBH...but if you know anyone that wants to let something similar go for that money, gimme a shout!!!PMSL

Ive always thought that if its too good to be true...it probably is.

I will also be checkin out Ebay when the time comes,I reckon a good deal can be had,but on the other hand,I will
also check out the civic forums, would give peace of mind to buy a "known" car in good shape, but I suspect not many bargains to be had there...

Mate 6k will easily, easily find you a nice facelift with around that mileage.

8k for an EP3, you got to be kidding me. Maybe a JDM.

I sold my prefacelift on on 02 plate two years ago for £4,500, 55k on the clock FHSH etc etc..

Your quote seems way out aswell btw. I paid 1100 with direct line, 22 years old, 1 years no claims. But this was 2 years ago.

I've done 6 years and 50,000 miles on RE040's now, they are most certainly not "crap in anything but bone dry conditions" if you have basic common sense and reasonable throttle control

Yea,I will have to shop around for insurance, would be happy with a quote around £800...is it worth phoning the insurers that give the cheapest online quotes, has anyone got it cheaper doing it this way?

Roll on march,I can't wait,I'm on honda number 3 now, currently an '02 EP2,before was a 96 1.4 hatch, and my first was a 94 ESI VTEC...all these have been very reliable, bar the gearbox on the 1.4,but the only 1 that I enjoyed driving everytime was the ESI...it was also the cheapest,£800 on ebay 5 yrs ago, right bargain!

Yea,I hear you...

I do fancy the DC2's and the EK9's,only Im looking to pick up something with around 50k miles, and admittedly Ive not looked
for low mileage examples,I suspect they might be as rare as hens teeth!

I do alot of driving in my work, and I am by no means knocking Hondas' reliabililty,I would just have more peace of mind with a "lower" mileage car.
