Hi all,

A good friend is looking to purchase a Honda Accord Estate for around £5,000

He has currently narrowed down his search to the following:-

http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/sales/2237942.htm

or this...

http://www.hillmeadmotorcompany.co.uk/28777/showro... - The blue 53 2.4 VTEC for £4,995

Can anyone offer any advise on which is the best bet to go for? - or in fact neither!!

He slightly concerned that the first has quite high mileage, are his concerns justified?

From reading a few reviews they seem pretty bullett-proof however I bow down to the forums greater knowledge!

He's looking to purchase ASAP so any speedy replies greatly appreciated!

Many thanks
Stuart

I had an Accord 2.4 Tourer, I loved it.

The automatics (mine was auto) like a drink, mine was averaging mid-twenties.

I`d get a manual if I were him.

I've had my 2.4 Tourer since new in 2003 and the same mileage as the one advertised.

By far the most bullet proof car I have ever owned (and I've had a few). Mine's a 6sp manual and mpg is only mid thirties motorway cruising, so no idea what the auto would be like!

Very easy to drive. Bit of an olds man car though smile

Diesel Accords were not about in 2003 when I bought mine. I think they did not make an appearance until about 2005

I've got a 2.4 exec auto, and to be honest it's not cost me a penny in repairs in 5 years but the autos are thirsty but quite nice. get your mate to join www.typeaccord.co.uk their quite a knowledgable bunch on there with a tech bloke on there as well.

We are going to look at the Hillmead 53 2.4 auto today so I'll let you know how it goes!!

Should we look for anything specific or just the usual?

Thanks again

These are pretty trouble free cars compared to the diesels, just make sure that the power tailgate works correctly as this is around £1k to fix.

Mine failed out of warranty (it was five years old and 45,000 miles at the time). As I had a full Honda history Honda UK made a goodwill deal and paid for the tailgate motor. I paid for fitting which I though was a pretty good gesture. I think fitting was around £150 and the motor was around £400, this was in 2007 though.

I also had a sticking rear brake calliper on mine. I got it rebuilt by a specialist and it never failed again.
