You'll probably need to narrow it down a little to get helpful advice. There's a few Honda Type R's.

Sorry was half asleep when I wrote this I'm looking to buy a 2003ish for about £5000, about 70'000 seems to be the average genuine looking advert, any things to watch out for?

Hi,
I've got a CTR of that age and mileage. When I bought mine I used the honda civic typre R owners club.

I think theres a sticky on there with buying advice. Let me know if you cant find it.

My advice would be to drive a few. I did and you can tell which cars have been abused when you've driven a good one in comparison. I think £5k is about right for a 70k mile car. Its good value for what you get and so long as its got a FHSH you wont have any problems (based on my experience anyway, my only problem was an exhaust heat shield that buzzed at 3kRPM, easily sorted). I'm looking to sell mine and am struggling with what to get next as the CTR is such a good all-round car.

The only piece of advise I can give you is to buy mine, you can have it for £4000.

Sounds fair!

I keep wondering if DC2 prices will ever go up, but I think FWD doesn't help, they're probably not rare enough, and don't have the motorsport heritage (in this country, at least, Dixon excepted). Still, they don't seem to be dropping much either...

They will go up, there's a lot of reasons why they havent (they've not reached the bottom just yet) but it will happen. They're almost a victim of their own success/quality.

Which is why I'm keeping mine 99% standard - if I ever do want/need to sell her, it should make life easier and command a little more £££.

Good luck - but you shouldnt sell smile

Mine was modified when I bought it, but I think they enhance the experience for the most part - atleast for me who only uses it for 'fun'.

I think next year I will treat mine to a bush+damper refresh and maybe even get the arches 100%. Will cost a bit but I've no idea what I'd replace it with.

The only ones that appreciate will be pristine low mileage cars. And by low mileage I mean low overall mileage eg <50k

That's mine out on both counts. Cared-for car, but a well-used car not a garage queen.

You think? I've not read of many sub 50k cars.

I still think they will appreciate in the long-term, or at the very least bottom out. It may well take 5+ years though.

Personally I dont really care though, if they continue to drop it means a replacement for mine or even a second wont cost too much smile

Sorry to piggy back on this topic, but is there anything to specifically look at with these cars? I'm looking at cars around 50-60k miles on the clock, and wondered if anything like a cambelt change was due around this time?

Cambelt is age or mileage, so every 7 years on a car with those miles.

Check synchro, esp. 2nd to 3rd.
Check rear brakes - calipers often need refurbing at this age
Check rear wheel arches - one likely rust-spot

Otherwise just check for the usual stuff - smoke on start-up, accident damage, etc. etc. Engine should idle dead-smooth and have THE best throttle-response this side of a Caterham.

I'm hoping that mine will hold it's value to be honest! Don't expect it to appreciate, at all, but depreciation should be minimal now smile

Has anyone got a link to a buyers guide for EP3 CTR? I would find this useful and not having much joy with the search facility on CTR forum
