I know this topic has been done to death; BUT what is the curent thinking on shoes for my Type R. I currently have 205/45/R17 Bridgestone Potenza. I need a whole new set and thats likely to be £450 notes...... I Won't be doing any track days as such in the next year as i have to many finicial commitments. Can anyone reccommend a set of cheaper alternatives to these tyres, perhaps with a bit more side wall...?

Many Thanks

I have Yokohama Parada Spec 2 on mine and like them a lot - they are 215s though.

They are awesome in the dry but can be a slight handful in the wet - just need to be a little careful wink

Trouble is, there is not another tyre out there with a stiff enough sidewall compared to the RE040's, and EP3's are not exactly famed for their steering feedback as it is.

Every other Toyo, Yoko, Michelin, Pirelli tyre I have tried just makes it feel like you're driving through treacle or has comedy jelly like roll in the corners. I guess that's fine if you like that sort of thing but personally I don't

Fitten re050 to my ep3 yesterday after running the 040s, no real difference to tread pattern, and feel is the same.
The 050's have a higher load rating iirc, so sidewalls should be a little stiffer. But to reiterate they feel no different!

The RE050's are slightly better in the wet and sacrifice some outright dry grip as a trade off

OEM discs are fine all round. I paid around £95 for fronts under Honda Happiness last time round

Just waiting on a quote for.... 4X REO50's 4x DS2500 pads, 4x EBC Blanks.

One more question, just looking at my tyres today and the rears are 205/45/R17 W84 and the front 205/45/R17 W 80. Now the fronts look much thinner then the rears. I thought the letter indicated the speed rating but have no idea what the difference between the 80 and 84 is.

Thoughts>

many thanks

84 is the load rating, there is a specific Honda version of the RE040's btw.

No point putting DS2500 pads to the rear, they only deal with 15% of the braking so it's not worth the upgrade, even for track work. OEM pads are fine for the rear and give less brake dust to boot.

ETA - it's worth getting braided hoses (Goodrich) for the increase in pedal feel. I use Motul 600 fluid which is ace but I track mine regularly so the fluid is changed every 3 - 6 months. If you don't track it then any decent 5.1 fluid will be fine.
