which exhaust ??
Discussion
Depends what you are looking for - increase in performance or increase in sound?
The OEM backbox is not restrictive until your engine output is approx 300 bhp, so changing backbox only is done for noise or looks but not performance
The OEM midpipe is restrictive by about 5 bhp, so change this for both performance and noise
The OEM manifold is very restrictive, you can add 10-15 bhp by getting a decent race manifold and decat however your car will then not pass MOT unless you know a friendly MOT station, and you will need a remappable ECU in order to make the most out of it and not have the engine run lean.
Having tried a number of exhausts and manifolds on mine, the best combination I found was Toda Racing manifold, Spoon midpipe and OEM backbox. The Spoon backbox was just way too loud.

B pipe - http://www.unit-8.co.uk/acatalog/EP3_Cat_Back.html
You will also need uprated engine mounts if you go for the header, these are about £25 but are expensive to fit, and you will need a JDM spec front swaybar as well which is around £90 as well as a Hondata KPro ECU
This is what the Toda manifold and Spoon sounds like (not my car):

If you want the loudest exhaust possible, get the Buddy Club Spec III and a DC header

If you just want noise then just change the back box and possibly B pipe.
Personally I like the sound of the N1, and didn't think it was too much. For more noise, couple the new back box with a spoon or super sprint b pipe.
The supersprint sounds ok with a standard backbox http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ChcdipTjZo
If you want performance then it would be best to save up the cash and go for Gruppe M induction or AEM CAI, Kpro or K100 ECU and full decat exhaust system of your choosing with racing header. Do all this at the same time to avoid messing about too much with the car in the garage. As someone above mentioned, the ECU is essential if you're going to decat. It might not run lean, as they run rich as standard, but it's not worth the risk.
There's plenty of specialist garages that can do all that work easily and get the best results (Tdi North, Artech, CPL).
