2004 Civic CDTI - Major Issues, Honda don't seem to care.
Discussion
Hi guys,
Posting here on behalf of my parents whom are having no joy at all with Honda UK over some major issues with their 2004 1.7 CDTI. It all started back in March with the car going in to Limp home mode, since then it's been in to the Honda dealership 5 or 6 times, each time costing quite a lot of money, not to mention time and inconvenience - they've had to cancel one holiday (they tow a caravan) and it looks like they are going to have to cancel another this week because of it.
Initially they thought it was an issue with the turbo, then a control valve for the injection system, now it just seems like they are guessing - each time at my parents expense. The latest really annoying thing is that the dealer just had the car for 5 days whilst they were away - parents picked the car up, got most of the way home, it went in to limp home and barely got them home safely. They managed to get it back to the dealers (who wouldn't come and collect it, and told them, "oh we expected that to happen, or it to be perfectly fine) and it took them 15 minutes to put back what they had changed (but now the engine warning light is back on) - which is really annoying, because they had the car 5 days and could have taken it for a 20 minute test drive to see if it triggered the problem.
No one seems to want to take any responsibility for the issue, the dealership say they are waiting for Honda UK to give them instructions, Honda UK (presumably someone low down the food chain) say they are waiting for the dealer to tell them what they need.
What it sounds like to me, is that Honda UK know perfectly well what the problem is, but don't want to pay for it to be fixed - As I know if I were Honda and there was a problem dragging on for 6 months with a car that couldn't be identified I'd want to know what the problem was, to see if it would affect other cars. It sounds like they know what it is, the bean-counters have done their sums on what it'll cost if they can't keep fobbing customers off.
So, does anyone have any contact details for someone at Honda who is likely to give a damn and has anyone else had similar issues with a similar period CDTI?
It's getting to the point where for the sake of my parents health (they're getting quite worked up over this now, as it's cost them well in to 4 figures now and nowhere near resolved) I'm going to go camp inside Honda UK headquarters till they sort it. I don't feel like being arrested just yet, so if anyone has any ideas/help it'll be much appreciated.
Thanks,

Hi,
Someone here may well chime in with the answer to the problem, but in the meantime have you tried www.civinfo.com/ ?
It might be that there are more members on there with that car/engine combo than on PH.

That engine is an Isuzu lump that Honda bought-in while they were developing the 2.2. Older-tech and had known turbo problems (supplier issues at Garrett), but I don't know any more than that.
Sorry to hear HUK are burying their heads in the sand - they've done that for years, TBH - if it wasn't for the innate reliability of the product they'd have real problems.
