Saw my first wild CR-Z in the flesh...
Discussion
...yesterday in an IKEA car park.
I have to say, and this comes from a hardcore ED9 CR-X fan and previous owner, the thing actually looks fantastic up close. This one was Polar white with dark silver alloys... very trendy.
The last time I saw one was at the 2009 Geneva Motor Expo' where it was up on a plinth so you didn't get to see it relative to other cars, but, sat down on the blacktop amongst a generation of podgey over tall, under-wheeled family crossovers, it looks low, squat, taught and dare I say, sexy.
This car looks sooooo much better out in the wild than in any photos!
The big-gob grille is still a bit much, but is mellowed by entire market following in the same direction over the past couple of years.
Well done Honda! Now gut it and give us a Type-R!!

It does look, however, like history repeating itself though. The owner seemed to be a white haired old lady, and I swear I did spot a tartan blanket on the parcel shelf!
I was in my local dealership getting my car booked in and they had a black one outside that I thought looked sweet...............then went into the showroom and saw the white one!! Is the polar white the one that on first glance looks like championship white, but when you look closer it's actually metallic/pearlesant (spelling!)? It looked absolutely amazing in white!
They look good from the outside, but as soon as you sit in one you realise that you can't see anything at all behind your eye-line:-
- pointless 3/4 windows hindered by those silly large black 'surrounds' and by uber-thick B-pillars;
- letter-box rear window, tinted AND with silly plastic stripes across it as well!
Oh...and following on from the Civic, a dashboard which is a triumph of fashionable design over ergonomics, which is completely contrary from all previous Hondas (sit in anything from a mundane EG Civic through to an S2000, and you'll see how all the major controls were very driver-centric).
So it's not the new Volvo, it's the new Audi - all image, no substance! It's not even got independent rear suspension, FFS!
(Yes, I am on a downer on Honda right now - they've ditched pretty-much all of the core principles that they stood for for decades, and have followed most of the other mainstream manufacturers in being design/marketing-led not engineering-led)

Annoying, isn't it? Everything that makes us Honda fans love the brand is being slowly eroded away.My friend has just ordered a brand new white SPORT version! He should have it sometime this week and I cant wait to have a go
I agree with Havoc though. Honda have completely sold out now like 90% of other manufacturers. It pains me to say it, but the only manufacturer that seems to still be making fun, affordable cars is Renault.
