Hi have an 07 Jazz (so facelift first generation model).

I dropped the key and now it does not start the car but lock/unlocks fine. Honda say that the chip inside is broken from he fall and it need a new key. They want 270 euros for the key and re-programming (I'm in Greece).

Regarding replacing te key cheaper: I believe I can just buy another second hand key, change the metal part so that it fits my locks and then have Honda programme it to work on my car and is something I am looking into but am wary about buying a second hand key that has also bee dropped and doesn't work...
Anyone know where I can get a new Honda key at a good price in UK (I can just get i sent to me here or collect when I am in UK)?

Back to the original question - how can I disable the immobiliser on the car though?
The reason I ask is what if the key gets dropped and stops working whilst I am miles from home (or a Honda garage) which is easy to do in Greece if you are on an island or out in the countryside?

Can I just turn the immobiliser off somehow and start the car normally?

The price you quoted sounds about what you would pay via a Honda dealer in the UK

The immobiliser works through the ignition barrel/ECU, so no you can't just disable it otherwise they would be easy to steal eh

Is that a definitive answer or an assumption on your part?
I am no expert but the immobiliser is an electrical system which should be able to turned on or off somehow even though it works via the barrel and ecu. Maybe the dealer can do it?

It can be disabled in aftermarket ECU's such as Hondata, I'm not sure if the standard ECU has the capability. Probably, for diagnostic purposes, but you'd need to speak to your dealer.

Thanks for the info.

It seems a fragile key and could be a right PITA if the key broke again - looking into getting another spade made up (using a second hand key) as not feeling in the mood to splash out 270 euros for a key that is poorly made and not able to take a fall. It's not even a neat folding type key!!

I guess as the Honda hardly breaks down they have to gouge you on the parts when they get the chance, just like the tried me on for 90 euros for brake pads for front and the same again for the back!!
To be fair though, their prices for air filter(20), engine oil(40eur), gearbox oil(40eur) and labour (45.00 an hour) were ok.
