My Father-in-law has a honda accord estate. Not sure what year. It's a diesel and starts first time every time when cold and will run happily and perfectly all day long as long as you don't stop the engine. But as soon as you stop the engine it won't start for at least a couple of hours. The engine will turn but it won't fire into life.

I know I should probably provide more info, but I was wondering if anyone else had this same issue?

Depends on the age but possibly the main relay. It's a common problem on early 90s Hondas and is caused by the soldering in the main relay disinterating over time. When it's cold it still connects but once it's warm the board expands and the connection is lost.

Sometimes a well placed knock to the underside of the dash can fix it as a temporary measure.
