Thinking about buying an S2000 and was just wondering what common problems to look out for?
Tax- I believe pre 2003 cars are a lot cheaper to tax?
Imports- Avoid these? Do they differ from UK cars? How do I know the difference between an import and UK car?
Someone also told me the Yellow and Orange cars are imports, not standard UK colours.

The older models are cheaper to tax.
Have a look over on www.s2ki.com there's loads of info on there.
That or buy mine ( see classifieds )

Pre March-06 are cheaper to tax, but given the cost of insurance and petrol, a couple of hundred quid shouldn't be a deal-breaker.
The only colour that is definitely import-only is Championship White (available on pre-06 cars). But given the lack of difference between UK and JDM cars, stick with UKDM unless you'll get an absolute bargain on a JDM (and then watch for spec differences).
As above, s2ki.co.uk has all the info you'll ever need...

"But given the lack of difference between UK and JDM cars, stick with UKDM" If there are hardly any differences and now out of warranty why stick with only UK cars? Every chance an import car won't need it's geo totally renewing as the cars have not been subjected to years of our winters would you not agree? At the end of the day they are all imported and made at the same factory!
There are some subtle differences with JDM cars!
Plus they will not have had the UK recalls done, the oil bolt one being critical. Many JDM cars have lunched engines because of this. The UK engine is not a direct swap on the the JDM loom either.
Plus there is no way to check on the history of the car and JDM's, I've seen crashed JDM cars imported to Ireland fixed and sold as straight cars in the UK
Me I'd look for a EUDM parallel import - best of both worlds and priced between the two!

- Insurance costs- Underseal (no point importing now as the Yen/£ rate is well against you, so you'd need to go for a previous import which may/may not have been undersealed properly)
- Resale (how many people will be happy with JDM?)
- Spec - often the JDM S2000's are lower-spec (leather was an option in Japan, for example)
It's not like it's a rare car, and in this case (unlike the DC2, EK9, DC5, FD2 and NA1/2) the Japs didn't get anything special that we didn't (except VGS, which is widely considered to be worth avoiding).
listen to Havoc -he knows what he is on about when it comes to S2000s!
insurance generally is quite high so its worth checking out before you buy. A good geo alignment goes a long way and be sure to get one with FSH as they should have been looked after being such a high bhp/capacity engine
later models had traction control, earlier models had a plastic rear screen.

Don't forget there will be a number of Euro Imports (mostly from Cyprus) running around which are exactly the same spec as the UK car and don't need anything doing to them - nor will they cost more insurance wise etc. As long as the owner has taken the time to register them in the UK with a local Honda dealer the warranty is 3 years as per UK cars. The only diference is that the warranty is only up to 60,000 miles rather than 90,000 miles.
Bob Gerard used to sell Cypriot imports but as they stopped producing the S2000 last year they may no longer stock them.
Good cars though and loads of fun.
