Am looking at an S2000

and was wondering how good the VSA is. Is it effectively ESP and able to tame unintended oversteer?

Honda VSA - same principle as Bosch ESP, BMW DSC etc.
Compares where you want to go (steering and throttle/brake demand) with where the car's going (wheel speed, lateral acceleration and yaw rate sensors + some magic analysis) and then cuts engine power and applies individual brakes to bring the car into line.
My S has it. It lets you play a little, but it soon clamps down on any wayward motion. It's a good safety net to have for road driving I think, only really noticeable occasionally dulling the thottle response and holding back engine power when there's some slip exiting a bend, but the light doesn't always seems to flash, just notice the lack of go. The off switch on the dash switches it out completely. It was a pain when pressing on driving on track and was soon switched off, which lead to much smoother progress and more smiles!
