Expected mileage from Honda Accord 2004?
Discussion
Hi,
Recently bought a Honda Accord (petrol) 04 plate with 90K on the clock. Full service history.
Just wondered what I can expect to get out of this car mileage wise? I'm doing about 300 motorway miles a week.
My previous car a Citroen Xsara petrol had 182K on it when I sold it but was well and truly on it's last legs.
Checked classifieds and highest mileage I found one with was 160K.
Would you recommend changing the timing chain as well? Don't think it's been done, although some say they don't need changing for the life of car?
Cheers,
Stan

Engine, if looked after with decent oil and services, will be bulletproof, even if ragged in i-VTEC mode often enough.
The gear shift can get a bit sloppy though, but again, with the right oil in there, it'll be fine too.
Other than that, bushes are a bit of a bd, and having changed both lower and upper wishbones for OEM spec equivalent with bushes already fitted (FIA, and Shirley & something or something like that respectively) for half the price of Honda branded ones, and a clutch, the car's been fine.
If I have to hang on to it, or decide to just run it into the ground, I'll not be surprised to see 200K with much concern engine wise.
Other mechanicals will probably need sorting though.

I ran a '99 Accord for 125,000 miles and nothing went wrong. It certainly felt far, far tighter than the E36 3 Series' we were running in the fleet with those mileages. The BMWs also needed expensive parts replacements whereas the Honda just wouldn't die. When I left the company it was still going strong at 220,000 miles.
I also ran a 2.4 Type-S for 130,000 miles or so and that was equally tight and bullet proof. In hindsight I should have bought it from the company when I left.
