I was cleaning the car yesterday and noticed that the front discs are getting a bit worn. When i say "noticed" i mean that the lip round the edge now is quite proud of the face of the disk and i get a intermittent squeel when i have been using them a lot. I know the ferodo 2500 are prone to squeeling but i have not had a problem so far as i fitted them properly with the cooper slip and squeel shims.

So i have a couple of questions. Whats the thickness of the disk new and when should it be replaced? (I will get the vernier calipers on them you see!)

Now ebay has a million different disks availabal for sale but are they worth it? Shirley not all are made of bottle tops. I would like vented or grooved ones for asthetics, but they must not comprimise the braking ability at all, Or should i stick to OEM parts? I know that changing disks is a difficult job as you need a impact driver, but essentially i was going to buy the parts and supply to my very good local independant.

Where would the best place be to buy a set of disks? I am going to paint up my calipers and get the alloys refurbed as well with some new tyres so its going to be all new at the four corners. Any thoughts or advice would be welcome.

Stick to OEM or buy EBC blanks. I wouldn't bother with drilled or grooved disks as they're going to do nothing for performance and, at lower price points, they're prone to failure much more than a blank disk.

The standard EP3 brakes are absolutely fine for road use and will tolerate a lot of heat.

I am prob getting Nitrac discs in Plain even though the 6 groove are the same price. the cold treatment is meant to make the discs last 3x longer which is better if you use a harder pad. The grooves do de glaze the pad and increase the coeficient of friction a bit but IMO cause more dust and shorten pad life but im no expert. Nitrac are doing 10% off when you order direct. Not a huge popular brand but no bad reports either.

Nitrac are meant to be very good, would you mind sending me the link for the discs you are looking at?

I'v just had a go in a civic with Tarox F2000 grooved discs, and they are VERY very good. Cheapest i can source them is about £250 notes. However i am yet to find a reliable source of OEM blanks. I have absolutly no idea how much blanks are, and would like to see the price differance.

Any suggestions?

got quoted £103 +vat for plain or 6 grove direct from nitrac for DC2 fitment. thinking between Hawk or the lattest Dixcel pads, ES i think. Got to decicide how much track it will see in the next year to go for 6 grove and slightly harder pad.
