S2000 - Passenger airbag de-activation
Discussion
I'm currently looking for a post 2004 S2000.
Can anyone tell me if its possible/how easy it is to de-activate the passenger seat airbag as there may be occasions where I need to put a childseat for one of my young sons (3+1) in the passenger seat. Is it a dealer activity?
My wife will be less than happy if I buy a car that precludes it!

OK - S2KI search engine isn't working and I can't find any uk posts where anyone has actually done this, only people saying it could be done.
Anyone on here actually disabled their passenger side airbag or had an on/off switch installed?
I phoned my local Honda dealer and they said they would not offer this service as it is a Honda installed safety device.

I asked about this a while back.
The Honda dealer said that they would not do it and highly recommended against doing it.
The manual itself says that you should not carry children in the S at all.
The forum response was that it should not be attempted. Pulling the fuse may set off the airbag and even if not will not guarantee that the impact of a crash will not just set off the explosive anyway.
I have used the passenger seat with a front facing seat and it was fine (if a little bit risky). I would not dare with a rear facing seat.

I think this issued may just have ended my search for an S2000 :-(
I would never consider using a rear facing seat in the car but there may be occasions (rare as we have a family car -but possible) where I need to pick one of my sons up in the car (Both of whom use forward facing seats). In fact I would probably only be comfortable carrying the older one who has a seat which puts him much further away from the dash (its effectively a booster with a back/side impact protection).
I had a Porsche 993 before and could not find a childseat that fitted in the back seat that satisfied my safety expectations so my son never road in the car in the 3 years I had it.
I have taken my older son in my MX5 in the front seat though as it has no airbag and I felt he was safely restrained with no passenger cell intrusion issues greater than those likely in a rear seat. I was hoping that as a 4 star safety rated car the S2000 would be fine for occasional journeys.
Its interesting that late model S2000's have automatic deactivation of the passenger seat airbag based on a weight sensor as I am not aware of any crash structure upgrades. Unfortunately these late model cars are beyond my current budget.
Looks like I will have to wait a few more years before I get to satisfy my V-tec roadster craving (or get a taxi?)

2001 Porsche Boxster 2.7 purchased today!
You have my deepest sympathy! As I've owned Porsches on 2 previous occasions with no issues and lots of happy miles under my belt I'm more than happy with the Boxster as a stop gap!
Still have the V-tec itch to scratch at some point. . .
I'd have both if I could afford it but Porsche had the forsight to include Dads in their target market whereas Honda didn't.
I wanted a car I could enjoy with my sons as they grow up (even if it will be one at a time . . . it means I will have to do each journey twice )
I WILL have an S2000 one day though!

I am a dad ( although they are 20 and 23 )and my S is my toy ( at 56 I decided I was entitled to a mid life crisis toy )I wanted a car I could enjoy with my sons as they grow up (even if it will be one at a time . . . it means I will have to do each journey twice )

Best car I have ever owned
Have rediscovered the joy of just going for a drive .
