High mileage 2.2 CDTi engines - any issues to be aware of?
Discussion
Hi all, looking for some advice from those in the know.
My wife is looking at an '05 CRV with the 2.2 CTDi diesel engine. It's just turned 100k mikes but has a full dealer history and just the one owner. Are there any particular issues with this engine at that sort of mileage? I guess the turbo is the main concern but having been serviced by Honda from new it should be ok. I did a quick search on Google but not much is showing up.
Cheers

I have an '06 Civic with the 2.2 diesel engine, now covered 95k miles. Runs well, uses no oil, no smoke and turbo seems fine.
To be honest it runs the same as it did at half the mileage.
Only problem I have had was related to clutch, needed a new one plus flywheel at circa 60k miles.
Good luck.

Pablo,
We bought an '06 2.2CDTi Executive CRV last summer, that had covered 122k miles with one lease owner, and had the same concerns as yourself
It was a lovely car, with leather, sat nav, etc, and looked like it had covered about 30k, rather than the 122k, but the mileage was a worry initially
I couldn't find anything negative about the car/engine on the internet, unlike the x-trail we'd just got rid of , and the local dealer was equally reassuring with reports of 250k+ miles cars
The only comments I found were that the engines use about a litre of oil every 500-1000 miles and, as there's no oil warning light to alert you to impending failure, the handbook recommends checking the oil everytime you fuel up
All I can say is that bedding the engines in with higher mileages must suit, as ours hasn't needed any oil since last september!
The way I looked at it was that ours had been serviced at the same Honda dealership every 4mths throughout it's 3 yr life, and any problems would surely have surfaced by now
I'm pleased to report that, at 130k miles, it's still a fantastic car and does everything we need - we absolutely love it!!
Having had (very expensive) bad experiences with an '02 Mercedes ML 270CDi, which was a dealer maintained one owner car with half the Honda's mileage, and a 'near miss' with an equally low mileage '04 Nissan 2.2 x-trail SVE DCi -I have no problem recommending Honda's reliability!!!
Enjoy it,
mack
