My exhaust manifold has seen better days. Am I best just to source a decent second hand one and swap it over or upgrade? I can get a second hand one for £50.

The rest of the car is stock.

Also, can anyone recommend good HIDs?

The '98 JDM manifold is supposed to be more free-breathing than the UKDM/96-JDM one - probably accounts for a good half of the 10bhp extra in the '98JDM car.

...but of course it depends on how much one of them will set you back!?! £50 for a 2nd-hand UKDM one is pretty-good, depending on condition (and how long that one will last you).

HIDs? There's been a lot of talk on itr-dc2.com about them, and I'm starting to seriously consider them as I'm royally fed-up with the poor performance of the stock lights. Worth a search on there...let me know if you find anything worthwhile!

I think the 98 JDM exhaust is 2.5" to compared to 98 UKs 2.25" diameter. So I guess I would need a whole new exhaust system to go down that route!

I'll try and get a quote from Honda on a new part. Don't expect it will be cheap though. I'll need to get a good look at mine so I know what one in better condition is expected to look like.

My indy recommended a brand of HIDs to me but I'll need to ask him again as I've forgotten already. I think they were around £250 for the kit but he rates them highly as they are properly rated and not going to get you into trouble for being illegal.

Do some searching on here (and itr-dc2) - it's quite a minefield.

If you obey every single suggested point then they need to be:-
- self-levelling (fair 'nuff)
- come with washers (odd one this as the logic is questionable)
- and the car needs to have HIDs available as OE in one variant or another. (Whether the JDM-98 qualifies the DC2 or not I'm not sure...)

Honda changed the manifold on the Uk car to a narower design and 4-2-1 to boost low down torque and increased MPG on urban cycle. If you thinking of de cat and exhaust at a latter stage you can fit a after market 4-1 which will give a small amount at higher rpm. i fitted a DC sport 4-1 with exhaust and de cat and got amall amount of increase in Bhp, think most due to de cat though. and a small drop in mpg. I would not bother with changing all to a 2.5" with a Jdm cat and de cat as IMO you will loose even more torque for about 2bhp in the last 1k revs.
check out www.itr-dc2.com for sale section for cheap oem or after market UK.

Still no further forward with my exhaust manifold. My local Honda garage quoted me £440ish for a new one! Apparently they are on back order as well.

MJ-DC2 on ITR-DC2 is selling HID kits for £65, seem to be getting good reviews from those who have gone for them. Might leave the lights for now and concentrate on mechanicals as the days are getting longer now anyway.

I think my 5th/ reverse synchro might need replacing soon. Got a slight crunch going from 4th to 5th at around 70mph if I'm still accelerating. I'm going to try a gear box oil change first of all.

The joys of owning a 12 year old car...

VERY unlikely. Assuming yours is an ATR, they're different engines (blocks, heads, everything).

If your engine happens to be a B18, though, then it might well do. Check the engine serial # - should start B18 or H22 or K20 or something like that, where the letter denotes the type of engine and the two numbers the capacity (just drop a decimal point between them).

confused

F20??? Didn't know they'd done that in an fwd application.

In which case:-
- ITR manifold certainly won't fit.
- CTR one MIGHT (no guarantees, but the F20 and K20 are related engines)

F20C in the S2000 is partly related to the K20A in the CTR...although off the top of my head I can't remember how many parts they actually share, which is why I said "might".
