Hey wondering if you guys could help.

Iv been to look at a Red DC2 (V1999)

It has been resprayed recently by the owner. I was wondering what to look out for to see if it's a good respray? Or what questions to ask the owner?

The car is very close to me and he has told me the name of the garage that sprayed it. Would it be worth getting in touch with them and asking what paint used etc etc? How much it cost?

Regards

I'd be looking very closely at the rear arches for rust and for crash damage, if the rear arches have been done correctly it's not a problem but I wouldn't be annoyed if I paid top money for a clean car and they'd been lashed up to sell it. I would almost rather by a car with rust arches & the price adjusted to suit and pay to have them done properly.

Having said that the red can fade quite badly so it might have just got to the point where it needed painting.

Thanks for the response.

The seller is very very honest. Said the rear arches had rust and someone at work hit the back bumper. So decided to get it totally resprayed as well as getting the rust sorted. I presume it would be easy to see its just been sprayed over right?

Its the first time i have ever been to look at a car and the seller be so genuinely honest. Its almost worrying...

biggrin

They do exist, but then so do those trying to flog you a lemon!

The red paint on ITRs fades badly, so if I needed a partial repair/respray, I'd be tempted to get the whole lot done.

Re: rust - I'm not an expert, sorry. You'd hope a bodyshop would do that little extra effort to fix properly.

It really depends on how bad the rust was and how much the owner wanted to spend.

The more he was prepared to spend the more they'd have cut out and the longer it will take to come back.

I'd expect if he was going to spend out to have the whole thing spayed he'd have had the rust repaired properly.
