My son has a type R 57 plate Honda. He has had problems with his battery not holding charge on 2 occasions. His friend has the same model with the same problem. He received a call from Honda saying there was a recall due to a discharge from the battery. Does anyone know about this problem?

Pop over to civinfo.com they will be able to help. There is a recall at the moment for an electrical related issue (MICU) but not sure if it is for the Type R.

There is a recall relating to battery not holding it's charge after a few days... They're calling it Fuse Box related...

I've just booked mine in (Type R) for a service and they said that there is a recall so they're gonna sort that while it's there...

Mine was left standing on the drive for over 3 weeks over xmas, and fired up on the button in -6... Guess i'm the lucky one for a change...

+1. I've got a 57 plate Type-R and heard nowt. Would add that I've had no issues though, touch wood. Coming up to service interval in a couple of months, so hopefully get to that without problems.

When i rang to arrange the service, the woman on the phone said they were busy due to the recall... I think all they do is test the battery voltage (according to the search i did anyway).

Unless you've had trouble starting the car, i don't think there's a reason to panic every Civic into the dealers all at once...

If you're having issues, ring your local dealer up and they have it in and look at it while you wait, and advise you from there...

From what I can tell it's not just the Type R's that suffer from the issue. Diesels and other petrols are also affected.
