Which car is for me?
Discussion
I'd go for an import EG (92-95) shape, something interesting like this http://pistonheads.co.uk/sales/1396976.htm
I'd look at owners forums' For Sale sections - http://www.civiclife.net/forum/http://www.jdmy0.net/http://www.hondatech.co.uk/forum/http://www.civicsportsclub.org/
Other than that, i'd look at Jap importers - although i'd say at the moment £3k won't get a lot for your money due to the poor exchange rate - and just keep trawling the PH classifieds. TBH, that one i linked you before looks like a damn nice car. I'd be sorely tempted as it seems to be everything you're looking for and they nice ones don't seem to appear for sale all that often.

If you're after something different then a CRX is a good shout - Civic floorpan with a different (2-seat) bodyshell. Or get a mint EG-series (early-90s) Civic VTi...
Final thought - £3k would get you a very tidy Mk4 Prelude, probably even a decent Mk5 (the ugly one). A 2.2VTi would be quicker in 90% of circumstances than any Civic shy of a Type-R, and the 4WS system is supposed to be very effective.

i had a look at some crx's i do like them i want somthing the wife will not drive as i like keeping my wheels(i think she is sexually attracted to kerbs). I saw one i think has potential(http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/1359453.htm) the only thing is, i live in kent only been here for 5 months so i dont know any garages that could do work on the car i.e. re-map's, exhaust.
I am not to keen on prelude's bit to big but thanks for the suggestion.

If you want a proper Honda specialist there used to be one of the BTCC workshops in Surrey - am guessing they're still there, forget the name right now. Do/did a lot of work on all sorts of Hondas, from simple servicing through to serious tuning.
Failing that, join one of the Honda forums and ask for recommendations.
