Have a gander at the forums at www.civictype-r.co.uk for a buyers guide, assuming it's still going.

For starters, from memory things to look out for are clonky steering racks (expensive to fix), engine oil level/condition, cracked engine mounts, notchy gearbox feel when selecting 2nd and 3rd gear, excessive wear on inside edges of rear tyres, seat side bolster collapsing, paint match between plastic bumpers and steel panels.

as he said, just two things as well, check the insurance cost and can you handle the road tax? Milano red are prone to stone chips, thin ninja red paint see.

I picked mine up 1 year ago. 05' CTR in Cosmic grey,Final edt, all the trimmings, FHSH, 19k Dealer bought, £9750. I defy anyone to get one as good now for that money, but they do turn up if you look about..... cheaper up north for some reason... scotland in particular.... Strange?

Check the anti roll bar drop links as ctr are very hard on them.
Will be identified by a knock at slow speeds over bumpy roads. This could be mistaken for a duff steering rack and only £30 a side to fix and a easy diy job.
I picked up a late 01 ctr in silver with drop link problem only 51k managed to convince owner it was steering rack and knocked £900 of selling price. Paid £4500 and it's been the best cheep car I have every bought, it's also total mint now with freshly powder coated wheels.
Good luck finding a ctr

I used the Wheel Works in Crawley back in July. £200 for all 4, stripped and powdercoated. Was a very good job! Highly recommended.
