Only issue is with clutches. Some cars have had incorrectly adjusted cruise control switches resulting in the clutch and dual mass flywheel having to be replaced. Most of them have been replaced under warranty but the odd customer has been caught out and charged.

Other than that it's a peach of an engine and they go like a bomb when the miles are on them. The 138bhp quoted figure is widely reported to be a conservative figure. The can be remapped to around 190bhp and around 197bhp if you have an uprated clutch.

We have had one for 12 months and are delighted with it.

Sounds good, i'll let him know.
We've been keeping an eye on them at the auction, seem to come as a sport model, exec and SE guise.

My wife has one, go with ES or EX specification to get cruise, or if you are not interested than the only other thing the SE is only missing is dual zone climate (it does have aircon). It goes very well, nice to drive and the starship enterprise dash is quite cool. 50mpg on a run possible (ours has only done 20k so may get better with age), and the best load space in its class.

"best load space in its class" - having no spare wheel helps!

Plus the fuel tank under the front seats.
