overall what would be the best for a vtec engine.
short ram intake pipe or cold air double arm intake pipe ?
or is it the same unless you got an upgraded intake inlet ?

I had the short V2 and now have the CAI long AEM ram. I prefer the CAI intake. Just avoid deep (10"+) puddles. It sounds better and the principal of the intake is better. Cold air more directly......

ok thanks for that......

Why would you post on a topic you clearly know F A about?

You where bored wern't ya!?

OP

If you want the best the the Carbon Mugen box or Gruppe M is/are probably the best (circa £650+ mind!), in all other circumstances if the car is standard or modded, the Long-Arm Cold Air Induction kit from AEM is about the best. Second hand or new it matters not, as you can hardly see it! A new filter is adviseable if more then 5k miles has been done on it, or get the official filter cleaning kit from AEM.

That is all really, bought mine for 120 notes. Thrilled with it.

Unless you have other modifications to your engine you are just going to get a rorty induction sound and 2/10ths of fk all gains. Stick with the Honda intake as I am pretty sure the clever Japs that work for them know a bit more about tuning engines than the purveyors of steel tube and silicone joiners.

Not strictly true. The OEM equipment has been designed to meet a variety of criteria, including NVH, emmisions, performance and cost.

Aftermarket engineers are not bound by the same criteria so can exploit that to produce more of whatever they want.

OEM of pretty much anything is a compromise to cost vs performance so there are always improvements to be made.

Thankyou 10p short, i did'nt bother begining to explain the balancing act Honda and all other companys strike between economy/ extreme atmospheric conditions/ power. Of all cars the Type R was always going to be modified, I think the brains in Japan realise this..... and thus gave the safe, economical, durable, option. Don't get me wrong they did a feckin good job, flow bench tests and rolling roads figures suggest that the OEM part is bang in the middle of the market, some worse some better. (two articles in Fast Car covered this end of last year)

I can't be arsed with the massive explantion as i am sure you are aware of the principles of engines. In there most simplistic terms they are a air pump, the more air you can get in and out the better.

Now my air is as cold as nature provides and runs un-restricted directly to the engine. It is not heated (via the engine) and sent through baffels set at 90 degrees within the bowls of the air filter before turning 180 degrees back to the plenium chamber* *does not strictly exist as this is more carb, but the area of final induction). Air induction temp is one of the biggest determining factors in power output. In a 200bhp NA engine even more so.

Just the shear weight removal would pedanticaly improve performance....

The benefits are more audiable then strictly tangiable. But how much fun is watching a movie with no sound?

Honda Rocks. They built a car and said go on tune it we WANT you to.......

I have been around Jap cars for more than 20 years. So I know a little about Hondas!

You where bored wern't ya!
I was not bored,I just did not want anyone mislead by bad advice.
The bordom comes from reading theads like this.
The only way to get more power from a Honda engine is
a complet rebuild with stronger parts, and a turbo or blower.
Then you can fit your shinny pipe bits.

I will make you one for a tenner that works the same.+ 1bhp
Forgot the power to weight gain.+.000001 bhp

Apart from the fact the quoting is fked as well as the spelling; I'm surprised you think "The only way to get more power from a Honda engine is a complete rebuild with stronger parts, and a turbo or blower."

Let's just go for; Kpro, Toda header, Spoon B, Spoon N1, GruppeM intake - I think that will get more power from a Honda engine without a complete rebuild with stronger parts, and a turbo or blower.

But then i don't have 20 years experience of Jap cars, so what the hell do I know?
