Hi Folks,
Popping my head round the door for a friend with a leaky roof.

The car is a 2001 S2000 with a leaky roof. The symptoms are that after raining the water seems to pool somewhere when stationary, then when he pulls away, the water ingresses into the cabin, drips down where the roof folds down half way along near to the seal by the door frame, this obviously in the long term will rot the carpets etc.

There are no rips or tears in the roof. Could it be a seal problem? if so where would he get the seals and is it an easy job to refit?

Thanks in advance
Mike.

Your friend either needs some of this stuff

or a new hood.

Could be stiff seals*. Try some shin-etzu grease (think it's just a silicone-based grease) - applied SPARINGLY to the rubber seals it loosens them up a bit, and acts as a water-repellent.

I have this problem, and have looked into it on s2ki.com

Here are common causes:
- worn contact plates for roof catches mean that roof isn't sealed properly against the top of the screen, allowing water to seap onto the rail. May be a cause, although people usually have issues with water from the windscreen corners first
- blocked water drains down either side of the windscreen
- rubbers are not supple enough and need a regrease or replacing
- the gap between the rubbers where the roof folds is too great. The rubbers do move, so slide both of them towards the screen as far as they will go.
- windows aligned incorrectly. Many adjustments for the windows behind the door trim

I have checked that the drain channels are actually draining, and last weekend greased the seals and adjusted them towards the screen as far as they would go. I'm hoping this solves the problem. If not I have some new contact plates (striker plate) to fit.
