A few are for sale with dealers and as a new boy to Honda can anyone tell me the difference between a standard CTR GT and the Championship white ones.

Big discussions over CTRs and the other ones, but I like the shape of the new one, all I would like to know is, is it fun?

Have you not considered the FD2 or is it the hatch back that you want?

Take a look at reviews and comparisons with the FN2 to understand how much better the Japanese variant is. wink

Here is a good example but has already been sold

Im just looking for a fun car for a year, not the fastest, a bit of fun, safe and reliable with a main dealer warranty.

Hence like the look of the Champ white, but dont know if they differ than the standard CTR GT

My comparison had nothing to do with which car was faster. It was to do with driver involvment which equates to Fun. The FN2 lacks the driver involvment of the FD2. If looks are your bag then fair enough, each to thier own. I personaly would not let the looks of car be the only factor of a purchase.

Not to say that the FN2 isnt a good looking car though.

Assumed you meant faster - apologies. Just not that comfortable with a import (although all imports in some way), like the 3 door and the backup of main dealer.

So perhaps the FD2 may be 100 fun factors but would the FNN2 be 70 fun factors ??

Any other differences ie Sat nav than a UK GT

Going by your post in the other topic, I think your dead on with the FN2. The FD2 is known to be harsher on the road's then the FN2 so it might not be the right car for you. I am pretty sure warranty is carried over to Honda UK though. I am not sure what the standard options are for the FD2 but it probably wont be to the same level as the GT FN2.

The only differences between a standard FN2 Type-R GT and the Champ White are the paint (obviously wink) on both the bodywork and wheels, a small plaque (even though the Champ White isn't technically a special edition) and last but not least, a Torsen LSD. This is the same diff as fitted in the FD2.

You're probably paying 2 grand for those things above, and you won't get a dealer discount like you can on a standard GT, either. Is it worth it? Well, to put it simply: a Honda Type-R isn't a Type-R unless it has an LSD. It should have been fitted as standard since the launch.

I have owned two fn2 type r's,they are great fun to drive with a slick gearbox and a fantastic engine, the ride is a bit firm but you get use to that. The handling gives you confidence to chuck it around and the grip in the dry on the bridgestones is very good.

That's not what I've heard. I've driven an FN2, but not an FD2. I cannot imagine the FD2 being more harsh!

Whichever you go for, get it booked in for a fast road setup on your way home from collecting it from the dealers.....

I know you're not keen on an import, but in your position I'd consider a JDM EP3. Much better drive than the FN2 by all accounts. A well cared for example is unlikely to go wrong, so warranty claims should not be an issue. Even if it does, it'll probably cost less than the depreciation on the FN2.

You won't lose a lot on it in a year, either.

Either that or a DC5.

keep an eye on insurance too.

Imports are auto group 20. And if you go for a dc5 due to no similar model type on uk market, some companies may sting you.

Looking at the OP's current and past cars the insurance on an imported Honda shouldn't prove too much of an issue (I'm making assumptions here, of course...sorry if they're wrong).

I know people with DC5s who are about 24/25, and their insurance with lots of mods declared still only comes to about £650. They use Sky/Flux/Dazely, or companies like that.

If you want a fun car then get an import. Seriously...they're MUCH better cars. I wish I'd bought one when I stepped into the VTEC world.

To answer the original question the difference is the colour and the LSD. You will pay a hefty premium for these as there are some terrific deals on the CTR GT. I get the feeling you want to buy new which means you're going to be looking at about 10 grand more for the Jap import due to the collapse of the £ against the Yen. The Japanese version is a better car but if you don't like the looks then you don't like the looks. I would take a test drive in both the GT and the Champ White to see how much of a difference the LSD makes to your style of driving. I bet 99% of the time you won't notice the difference.

I really can't recommend the CW Civic Type-R enough

I owned a Premier EP3 for about 4 years and the new one really is as much fun if not more, the LSD makes a big difference and stops a lot of tyre squabble in the wet, pulling out of junctions and really does inspirse confidence when driving with much better steering feel than the EP3

I'm sure everyone on this thread has had good/bad experiences with the FN2 and I will admit when I test drove a new 07 plate when they were released I wasn't overly impressed but the CW Civic just drives a lot better.

I wouldnt go back to an EP3 without the Xenons, Ipod connector, LSD, 18's, Dual Climate, Cruise Control etc

Have a search on youtube for "Championship White Civic" for some good online reviews and EVO have a good writeup of Standard vs CW vs Mugen with some good comments.

Let me know if you want anymore info

Cheers

All essential Type R hardware then!! smile

Joking aside a Type R should stand for engineering excellence and used to be about the hardware you got.

When the bean counters start watering down the spec its really just becoming a marketing tool.

If you want a real Type R experience save yourself a packet and get an earlier incarnation eg DC2 or an EP3 if you want more comfort but still a reasonable Type R experience.
