Thats quite a big headline to live up to!

I bought a cold air induction kit from AEM for my EP3 CTR. Its the proper one that snakes down under the battery and sits in the front bumper next to the fog light hole. Fearful stories of "waterlock" and dead'ed engines may have kept some away, and they go off and buy a Gruppe M.....

However i spent some time fitting it properly, replacing the plastic linings neatly after trimming them down slightly, and sits neatly in its own little sheilded corner.

The marvelous results....... Well it sounds the bks to start with. Normal town driving its just a ever so slightly deeper note, hardly auidable, not in the least bit offensive... In 3rd and 4th its a very faint roar at 30mph, its a deeper grumble in 6th at 40-50mph, more gutteral....
Then get it out of town on faster roads and its fantastic. The noise is really progressive, the higher the gear the deeper the roar and a all out large bore bellow at Vtec...

Now it does incourage you even more to hang out the gears, however i have just done nearly 1200 miles with it on, and i'm getting 70miles more per tank then with the standard airbox. Bloody marvelous! More power (ok only 1-5bhp) better sound and more miles per gallon.

Feckin brill!

How the hell does a cold air intake improve fuel economy? If anything it ought to make it worse. confused

Using less throttle to acheive the same power maybe?

If the charge is cooler then you need less manifold pressure for a given flow rate, so the pumping losses will be worse. You'd need to get more power from a given amount of charge to offset those losses, and I don't see where those gains would come from. Cold air intakes are usually good for power, not economy.

Stop ruining the perceived placebo. wink

Don't forget that on a 'rolling road' he's probably 'gained' 10bhp, too. rolleyes

Right that last post might have made me sound like a bit of a novice. I probably am in real terms of professional spanner monkeys, however.... A engine is essentially a big air pump, now the better you can get the air "in" and "out" the more power reletivly is produced. Air induction temps are a huge determining factor in the performance of a engine. It decides how much energy you will release from your fuel. I have definatly seen an increase in mpg, maybe thats an earlier shift point or the worsening weather. Maybe its the increase in colder' air flow generating more torque.

non the less i am supremely impressed with it as a modification. I know in real terms it will offer little in figures on a rolling road, but its a start gentlemen..... and that can only be a good thing....

If you like it, good for you, even if it makes next to no difference on paper. Probably worth it for the sound.

One thing I always regret that I didnt do when I had the teg is had a decent CAI stuck on it just for the sound. Std airbox undoubtedly was probably the most efficient, but I'd have love to have heard it.
