Yep, oil would be my first point of call. When was it last changed / last serviced?

Make sure its fully warmed up, and then take it to Honda if its still not running properly. There are no engine management lights on i take it?

Never had an engine failure due to V-tec.

That means nothing.. have you checked the oil level?

lol, yeah I know, was just quoting JC and others.... biggrin

Also pretty stupid claim as there isn't really anyway v-tec can cause an engine failure even if it wanted too.

Its a bit like saying no ones had an engine failure due to a flat battery.

As above, check your oil.

In addition, can we just check that you're not trying to get V-Tec to engage with a cold engine and/or rev'ing it while parked up.

It'll only rev upto 5500 approx at standstill (unless fettled with) and V-tec won't engage unless the engine is slightly warmed up (even then, give it a good while before tearing off into the sunset).

Indeed, it is a clever bit of marketing yes
