Hi, a slight problem with the NSX at the moment I can't turn the immobiliser off as the fob is doing nothing, I stuck a battery in to no effect, I took the fob into local Honda but they couldn't test these old ones, so still don't know if it's the fob or the something in the car. Is this something that has happened to anybody else and what is the most likely problem? Thanks.

Stephen - have you seen my thread on NSXCB - the old Honda fobs (large square ones with rounded edges) are Hamilton Palmer kits, and S2000 owners (pre-04) have had a LOT of problems with a different model of HP alarm/immob combination - the circuit-boards have been frying themselves and failing with the immob locked-on...happened to me and I had to be recovered to an alarm specialist to rip it out and fit another system.

Yeah thanks I piggy backed on that thread, Senninha recommended Brian at Norton way Honda on there(is he at Chiswick or Letchworth?) I'll ring one or the other and see if they can collect her.

Same as this fob, evidently a Hamilton Palmer one,

In my experience Honda will only want to replace with another Honda (i.e. H-P) system.

I'd go for an after-market one fitted by a proper specialist - you'll get more reliability and better VFM!

Hmm, OK I had a quick look around for mobile car alarm specialists, have you heard of Toad alarms? any good?
Thanks.

Toad are one of the better (read: more reliable, less gimmicks) companies.

The Ai606 is one I was looking at for the S2000, but I ended up going for the Sigma S34, which is the internals from the Ai606 re-packaged and without an immobiliser (as the S2000 had a chip-in-key anyway, so I figured as it's already got one immobiliser why open myself up to another alarm failure!). Only had it a year, so couldn't tell you how good it was/wasn't...my main gripe was it only had one button so it's functionality was a bit limited.

Clifford get mixed reviews - some love 'em, some really don't...although I've read that half of the problems are down to sub-standard installations (Cliffords tend to be more complex, which is good and bad - more features, e.g. remote boot release, full closure, window-drop, etc...)

Worth doing a search on here. I also rang around a few local alarm companies, but each one seemed to be either 'tied' to one mfr or have the best relationship/deals with one mfr, so just recommended that one regardless...which doesn't help the punter!

I've gone with Toad(despite they're Tim Westwood testimonial wink) as they're mobile and seem OK.
Fingers crossed the fitter isn't a fifteen year old with a hammer. laugh
