Next Car - Civic?
Discussion
Wont be getting a new Car for a while but would like to have a specific Car In mind for when the time comes round.
I wanted a Zetec s but then I thought about Jap Cars and from there about the Civic!
I'll only be 18 when I get a new Car and hopefully with 1 years no claims so nothing to crazy on the Insurance.
I like the Civic Hatchbacks, the older ones? What Engines do they come In?

What about 1.6 vtec Civics?
Butch
I found that the 1.6 vtec civics(EK4 96-2000) were more to insure than a type R(01-06)Butch
At 18 the insurance will be very high.
I've owned a 3 door 1.4 and a 1.5 5 door (the one in my profile) and found them to be much better than the equivalent vauxhall/ford/french crap/etc. Like any other car make sure you buy one that has been looked after as there are plenty of dogs out there that WILL go wrong even if they are Honda's

I think they're out of my price range mate!
I'll consider a 1.4, 1.5 and a 1.6, are they Vtecs?
Butch
I guess you undertstand what vtec is so I won't bother to explain.I'll consider a 1.4, 1.5 and a 1.6, are they Vtecs?
Butch
Below I'm talking about the civic (1996-2000) like this
1.4's - no vtec system but are quite pokey and good on fuel(around 90 bhp)
1.5's - you can get a vtec version but its import only i beleive. The other version is the vtec-e which again are fairly pokey but are really good on fuel(around 110 bhp i think)
1.6's - you can get a normal 1.6(110 bhp) or the famous 1.6 vtec 160bhp but at 18 you may find insurance an issue.

There's no way I'd be able to afford the 1.6 Vtec, maybe the standard 1.6 though?
You can also get a 1.6 sr (125 Bhp)http://search.autotrader.co.uk/es-uk/www/cars/HOND...
^^^ that one's a bit ropey and I can't be bothered to trawl the web looking for them. But you get the idea

I'm not sure whether to go for the 1.4 or the 1.6 and get raped by the Insurance companies?
I plan on keeping the Car for a few years untill the Insurance has gone down a bit and then modding It, Is the 1.4 a good base or should I just go for the 1.6?
Butch
There isn't that much difference between the 1.4 and 1.6 in terms of power and the insurance will be quite high on both anyway due to your age, both will be fairly fun to drive. Test drive them both and make your own mind up.I plan on keeping the Car for a few years untill the Insurance has gone down a bit and then modding It, Is the 1.4 a good base or should I just go for the 1.6?

If your going to modify it don't bother with anything apart from some wheels and maybe new springs/suspension to tighten up the handling. Anything else is just a waste when the cash could be spent getting a better car.
I really rate them but don't get too carried away(like I almost did) as its only a civic at the end of the day.
