Wonder if anyone here can offer some advice.
I've had my Prelude for 5 years, it's a 1997 BB6 2.2 Vtec auto SSS. It's been brilliant to say the least.
There is a noise now coming from the auto/man gearbox-a kind of rattle, like a lose chain. This is only happening in park or neutral gear. In drive and manual select its fine and there is no impact on the drive or speed it goes really well. It's done 125000 Kilometers (85,000 miles?). I've taken it to a Honda garage and they have no idea apart from it could be a simple thing like a bearing or possibly the torque converter (£850 plus 7 hours to replace @£70/hr). I asked for a new gearbox but they don't make them anymore so they are not available.
Do I scrap the car off, sell it as is or sell it for parts or try to fix--a shame to scrap as it a heck of a good car.

thats the same problem i had with my 1st prelude. but i had a 1997 make. check your transmission fluid and top it up to the max level. it should do the trick but if not then your gear box is worn out.. you can take it a scrappy yard and pick up a replacement and fix it that way. it cost you some thing around £150 to £300 depending on who you take it to. fixing it on shouldn't cost u that much something around £200. try and avoid Honda dealers bad news.

manual transmission is better. he-he.. smile

Checked the fluid and changed it, I do that regularly anyway, same with the engine oil (twice a year).
I've looked around for a spare auto box for this car and they are rare.
I think I may sell it as it is, I'm not mechanically minded so gearboxes are way out of my league, not too bad on electrics though! I've been offered near £800 for from "webuyanycar" but I've seen them advertised for up to 3 grand on web sites.
